Okay is a longer, proper word which I use in, say, dialogue for creative writing.
OK is shorter and faster to type, especially on forums and chats.

Since I use the forums more than I write the word "Okay" in an essay, I go for OK.

Ok or okay. It depends on the occasion. I am careful not to type the wrong thing.
