our family's windows computers date from 1998 to 2003 and we haven't replaced them because since then everybody in our family has gotten their own laptop BUT ME (I'm younger than the second youngest sibling in my family by 8 years). So I'm stuck with 5-year-old computers with viruses (because my sister downloaded a lot of stuff on them). Oh yeah and Microsoft thinks the used-to-be-better-one has an illegal copy of Windows on it (we upgraded) so they make us wait 10 seconds before we can log in. And the other one freezes every ten seconds. And the other one doesn't have internet. That's why I like it when I go to my mom's, she's got a mac.

Mine is amazing (not really.)
1000mhz (1ghz) Intel Celeron Processor
512mb ram
I'm not sure my motherboard, I have to check so I can overclock.
ATI all in wonder graphics/sound card (old, not sure the model)
20gb hardrive, slower than your granny.
17" Compaq monitor
3+1/2 floppy drive (which I use all of the time.)
A couple old disc drives
Running on Windows 2000, service pack 4.
I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze my processor up to 1200mhz so I can run Half Life 2.
Also, Macs can't really be compared to other computers because they don't run the same. If you like Macintosh computers, go ahead and use them. I wouldn't ever use one because there aren't enough applications and it lacks in the gaming department. All of the games I play are windows only and I have yet to find a Macintosh exclusive game. It gets very difficult to upgrade Macintosh computers because the motherboard is stuck in there (the processor too probably).
Don't pull the "Well, Windows is bad because it crashes all the time" argument ever because it doesn't crash unless you run a load of applications at the same time. Yes, there are more viruses on Windows but really, I've never had a bad enough virus to switch me over. If I was ever to switch, it'd be straight to Linux.
I just totally derailed myself there. In short, my computer is terrible and I don't like Macs.

I have no money at all. I'm applying for a job sometime soon. I don't have anything that requires more room than 20gb. The games I play are at least 4 years old (one of which I can fit onto a floppy disc, Liero). I don't have any downloaded music because I use Winamp Radio instead, or set up a local network with my friends if I have to. I keep all my music on my 2gb micro SD so I can listen to it from my DS.
Windows 2000 is an extremely stable operating system. I've only ever had it crash because the wrong drivers were installed or I tried to run Warcraft III (still trying to figure that one out). It's been recently reinstalled with the harddrive reformated so it runs really well.
The only thing I really should get is a new processor and more ram. The videocard is fine because I don't care for fancy graphics as long as it's playable. I'd like at least 1gb of ram and 2ghz of processor power so I could run Portal (1.2ghz and 512mb needed for HalfLife 2).

OS - Win. Vista
Memory - 4 GB
Motherboard - Can't remember name, but it has the best intergraded graphics card of any motherboard, and it's a dual-core.

Macs have Boot Camp & cider, 2 technologies that let you run windows games on a Mac.

1. All your "not fast enough" problems can be solved with a Mac.
2. Macs get the best of both worlds. Using bootcamp, you can play PC games faster ON A MAC!!
3. You don't upgrade Macs. They are so fast that if you keep your Mac for 5 years, a new PC is probably still slower.
4. Well, Windows is bad because it crashes all the time. Windows crashes when you run many programs at a time. When you're a computer pro, you need many applications open at the same time. In Windows, if a program crash, everything's just chaotic and there's a good chance that you won't get your stuff back.
4. There are more viruses on a Windows. Security is an issue on a Windows computer. Linux is open-sourced and it might be a bigger problem if more people use it.
5. I just totally derailed myself. lol

It doesn't really matter what OS you choose to use. I use windows because it's familiar and I can do whatever I want. I know how to tweek my settings and it lets me use software that would otherwise be unusable on a Mac. The "But you can run Windows on a Mac" argument is terrible too. If I wanted to use Windows, I'd buy a computer (or build) with the same hardware for considerably less. If you want to use a Mac, go ahead I could care less, just don't force your ideals onto other people.
More reasons I personally don't like Macs:
Upgrading is a pain. You can't pull out parts whenever you want. You have to get a brand spankin' new computer.
I don't mind the "security issues" because I never come across them. Don't browse dangerous websites, you shouldn't do it on any computer, EVER.
When I say "lots of applications" to crash, I mean LOTS. If I have too many, and the processor goes too fast, that's when it crashes. My processor is very slow, so I have to keep it down a little. The processor isn't slow because it's in a Windows box, it's slow because it's old.
I don't have "not fast enough" problems that would prompt me to switch, except for my internet connection. If it's slow, get rid of background applications. If I can't run certain programs, buy a new processor/ram or overclock.
Some reasons I might buy a Mac in the future:
When I'm a billionaire and can afford a really expensive computer (But I heard a new mac is coming out soon).
When I want my computer to look really, really nice on my desk.
When Macintosh computers are on par with Windows when it comes to amount of software.
When Macs flawlessly run my decade old software (which will forever be awesome) and newer programs. Or when all new programs have both mac and windows versions.
When I want to try something reallydifferent.
When I'm old and can't realy understand the new computers.
I must admit though, Macintosh computers are becomming extremely popular these days and think Apple stands a good chance against Windows. Targeting the younger demographic was a great move on their part. The shiny interface is really nice and they're extremely easy to use.

Ok so my computers are outdated and I know I can't win. Darn. Once I have saved up enough money though, I'm getting a computer built specificaly for gaming.
that can cost a lot of money
here's my bestest computer idea:
hard drive: 3 1TB hard drives (or more if possible)
processor: intel quad core
graphics card: 2 768MB (or higher)
sound card: 7.1 surround sound
monitor: 3 HUGE HDTV's (looking at about $15000 right here)
speakers: a surround sound system (about 7 speakers)
other: logitech gaming mouse ($100), gaming keyboard, high quality gaming headset, 3 mounts (for TV's), windows XP (don't use vista, it sucks!!!), and a wicked glass desk to store it all
you're looking at about $20000 probably more, good luck! lolzUse a Mac instead. They don't get viruses, and you only have the monitor
