THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT, IT IS A PROPOSAL.
So, I've been thinking and even though I've only been on here a short while, I think what this site needs is a group project. I'm not talking a 10 person collab or something, I'm talking at least 100 scratchers involved, some coding, some making art, some making music, others planning, etc. Now of course, this would be rather hard to do, which is why I've thought up a couple of ideas:
1) Have a TON of scratchers make a full size logo (as in 480x360). Then we have a couple of scratchers who are willing to make music make some epic music for some type of slide show. A couple more scratchers will code the project, then we will decide who should post it, and then we get it on the front page.
2) Decide on a game we want to make. Have a bunch of scratchers design the sprites. Then have a group decide how to write the code for the game, and have it passed around so that a bunch of people actually write it. Again, music will be made and we will attempt to get it front paged.
I know these are rather ambitious, and it's probable they won't work, but with the junk that's on the front page now, and so many scratchers with potential hiding out here in the forums, this is a chance to change the front page for good.
Discuss. Which idea do you like? Why? If you don't like the idea, why?

Collabs with a lot of people tend to fail. Besides, who says that two or three people really working together can't get the job done?

Because Scratch doesn't include just 2 or 3 people. Plus, for the first one at least, you can't have people drawing other people's logos.

I don't get how this would work out.

YEAH! I'm in! Put me down as an artist, I can fetch some sprites.

The first idea would be much easier, since all we'd have to do is make a topic where people post their images for the thing, import them, then have someone code it. The second one would be really hard, so I don't know exactly how we'd do that one.

You just restated stuff you originally said. I'm thinking that it would be hard to get hundreds of people to cooperate.

I like this idea!
It could be a nice group effort.

This could be pulled off, but the main challenge you'll face will be lack of incentive. Most companies or collabs are crushed from lethargy, so I suggest, to keep pace and motivation, for you to set deadlines for sections of the project to be done. Just giving out a tip.

No, I'm saying it'd be easier with only 2 or 3 people to make a good project.

And I'm saying that's not what I want.
@kiley- Thanks for the tip.
@agscratcher- I know it will be hard. But if it wasn't hard, would it even be worth it? Seriously, if creating a computer was easy, would people be as impressed by it or motivated to achieve that goal? Don't back down from something because it's hard, you will never grow from any experience if you do that.

I half support. It sounds interesting, but it would require lots of effort.

Not if all you have to do is draw a picture.

calling it the "best project ever" isn't a good idea either
i really hate when people do that
like if you name a thread "best project ever" in s&t then it gets no replies at all
if you name a project "best project ever" it gets no views
this is because no one likes a big-headed scratcher, whether they're good or not
unless they're cool and well known and their big-headedness is acceptable and or ironic

I'm in definitely. I say start it once you get 15-20 people. Post frequent deadlines, keep the max workers at 40, if it's under 40, keep advertising, and fire inactive workers.

If I were a big-headed scratcher, would I be trying to get as many people involved as possible, even wanting someone else to post the project. The reason I named I the best project ever isnot because it will be by most standards, but because it will be made by the community and for the community. I don't care one bit if I get recognized at all. I only wan to see what the community can do as a whole.

Maybe for the logo, if people each made their own and you minimized them you could make a big collage out of each logo.
I was actually thinking about that, but I'd need a lo of logos to do it.

Nice, but you might want to check this topic first.
