Scratch 1.5 (Scratch Team)

Is there any possibility that I could join the Scratch Team, and continue the line of Scratch written in Squeak (With the help of other people from the Scratch Team)? I know that this isn't very likely, but I'm wondering. I know some Squeak Smalltalk, and I'm looking for an unpaid internship.

Probably not. The Scratch team is a bunch of MIT students.

Scratch 1.5-1.9 aren't coming out. The Scratch team skipped those and went straight to Scratch 2.0

I suggest that you learn Java Script and offer to help with the development of BYOB 4 when it's ready. Jens seems pretty willing to receive help, but don't take my word for it, I'm not certain.

I thought they were in college. Because MIT is a college. And they are MIT students.

No. Just no. No one can get into the Scratch Team by asking.

Judging by your lack of knowledge about Scratch 2.0 and your phrasing of words, I doubt very seriously that you are in college. Even if you decided to try and fill in the other versions of Scratch, the Scratch team most likely knows Squeak better than you, no offense intended. So you might could get a group of people and try to fill it in, but that would be clashing with the TOS a lot. You would need legal permission from the Scratch Team.

Scratch 2.0 isn’t even going to be written in Squeak anyways. It’ll be written in Flash. So you would have to keep your copy of Scratch 1.4 and mod that. I’ll be honest, I don’t know how many people would be to keen on wanting to mod an older version of Scratch.

So you can’t join the Scratch team, you would have to fill in 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, and 1.9 all by yourself unless you could get others to help you, and the Scratch Team is unpaid anyways. Except for the donations, which no one does.

I think that this person is saying that they know about 2.0 in Flash, but they want to make 1.5 and so on in Squeak.

I said SCRATCH TEAM. And I am already taking college classes. Also, I know 1.5-1.9 aren't coming out, but I heard somewhere that the Scratch Team might continue the Squeak line of Scratch also. And one more thing: I already know Javascript also (even more than I know Squeak).

Exactly what I thought.
The U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. The same thing goes for "Everyone is smart until proven stupid". Don't assume someone doesn't know something just because they have expressed themselves unclearly. That was taken to a bit of an extreme, but you get my point.

Thanks for your interest in Scratch!

You do not have to join the Scratch Team to continue working on the Squeak version. The code is available already and you can add new features to it anytime. That's how BYOB came to be and it has been a quite successful spin-off of Scratch.  What kind of things would you like to work on?  I suspect some people in the team or even other Squeakers might be willing to help you learn.

We don't often have interns but if you're in the Boston area and there is someone in the team who is willing to host you, I could imagine it might be possible.

I've already made a Scratch Modification, but I was wondering if I could (with the Scratch team) actually work on Scratch 1.5 (for while people are waiting for Scratch 2.0). I live in the Twin Cities in Minnesota.

Add a codename for the version. For example, Orangefox. Don't use Blackfox or Greenfox as they are names of my dimension projects.

Yeah, you kill the editing community with flash! I'm not sure but I think you need adobe flash CS5 installed on your computer to make changes, or some other flash program - very expensive software!

Re: Scratch 1.5 (Scratch Team)

Though an advantage of flash is the speed and processing power outstrips what the squeak VM could ever do. you need only see the 3D wireframes run on the turbo-speed enabled online flash player to see that. I'm hoping scratch will move into the age where 3D generation is to some extent possible in real-time!
