My art pictures are simple jpegs that i put into a project and they get ruined- the quality gets all terrible and my pictures don't come out clear instead all pixelated!
I really hate when this happens- it doesn't allow people to see my art and how much work I put into it.
PLEASE tell me why this happens!!

For one, Jpeg's are compressed to start with. Scratch makes it worse by compressing the image further, and resizing it if it's too big. If you want good quality, you should edit the image beforehand in another editor and save it as a lossless format like a bitmap. (.bmp)

Actually, bitmap sometimes ruins the picture. Scratch converts the picture, no matter what format, into a Bitmap, ruining the quality.

I like to think of Scratch's image quality closer to pixel art than high-resolution images or vectors.

...which is why you should save as a bitmap at the exact resolution you need... -_-

Don't use semi-transparent images, Scratch can't handle them. Also, make sure the image is not larger than the stage, or it will scale it down.

I use Bitmap because it dosn't compress it as much as JPEG. I don't know why though. Maybe its magic. 0_0

Well, jpegs compress the image data, and bitmaps are just a "map" of every single pixel on the image. So naturally, a jpeg is going to show more compression.
