Re: Beta Flash player

It's great but it takes longer to load. I especially like what it does to pen- it makes it smoother, thicker. Basically, it makes it look better.  smile

Re: Beta Flash player

I LOVE the new Flash player on the website. Projects that we somewhat glitchy in Java work better now. Projects seem to load faster. The full-screen view is terrific, too.

Thanks for this great improvement!

Re: Beta Flash player

The Flash Player is much better than the Java player! Although games take slightly longer to download in Flash, the Flash player does not have the giant lag that the Java player has!  big_smile

Test it out with my Space Arcade game, and you'll know what I mean. I have a lot of unessecary objects moving about in my game (eg: The stars in the background), and the Java player gets confused. The Flash player deals with this without problem, however! Huzzah!

As part of our experiments with Flash, we are now releasing a beta version of a Flash player that you can use instead of the Java player. Please let us know what you think.  If you find any bugs, please report them on this thread.

Notes on Flash:
The new (beta) Scratch player requires version 10.0 or later of the Adobe Flash Player. Adobe Flash Player is free, comes pre-installed on Windows and Macintosh computers, and is used by many websites including YouTube. Chances are you already have it. However, if pikachu are testing the new Scratch player and nothing happens when you view a project (i.e. you just see a picture of that project), you might need to install the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player. You can download that here. If you want to find out which version of Adobe Flash Player is currently installed in your browser, visit this page.

If you can't install Flash on your computer, you can revert to using the default Java-based Scratch player to view projects on the website.

UPDATE  2011-02-23: The full screen issue has been fixed. Please let us know if this is not the case.

Sorry, Pikachu???

Oh great. hit my 100th post. thankz liru.

My project barely works in the Java player, but in the flash player its loaded in seconds, not minutes. Nice improvement.

Hey Andrés! It worked fine to me in Fedora, at least first projects i've played... I'll try to make a test with a Debian using the latest Gnash... oh! it is in the Fedora 15 beta too! So, i have a bunch of tests to share with you.

Nice work with the site too.

Regards.

Re: Beta Flash player

I think you should include a function that allows you to pause the game. If you hit the red flag, you have to start completely over.

Re: Beta Flash player

Well It's cool but some project don't work. While most projects are faster some projects wont show the right music, or activate the right scripts, on time. Nice addition though.

Re: Beta Flash player

I was in chrome and I pressed full screen and IT WORKS!  sad ?

WeirdF wrote:

A lot of people have said full screen doesn't work in Google Chrome, this is what happens:

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/6730 … eenbug.png

It epic fails when it comes to lists that have been resized...

This is one of the first projects I ever did, when you play it on the new player, and press one of the keys that it says you should press, the green flag and stop sign flash randomly...

On this project, when you use the Flash Player, it uses a different instrument to when you use the normal player...

I can't find any more glitches at the moment...

But anyway, apart from that, I quote both Jonathanpb and Chrischb:

Will Scratch 2.0 be faster, slower or the same speed as the current viewer?

Java version of games can be slow but the Flash player is awesome. My game ran with no alterations at all and at full speed. Kudos to you!

Re: Beta Flash player

Glitchy. Longer to load, and slower... (slower than the when the Java player loads NORMALLY, but faster than when the Java player occasionally lags by completing the loading bar and leaving it like that)

It's mediocre. In other words, it's OK. IMO (in my opinion), I prefer the Java player over this. I don't think that the Java player should be removed, it's still better than the Flash.

But it makes everything look better, more clearer (less "pixelated") like the font for the "ask" feature, variables, and lists and (like someone said earlier) the pen, but it's not high performance YET. I also like that it shows how many bytes have loaded (____ bytes out of _____) so I know the EXACT progress. Hopefully it will improve (this is only beta)...

OVERALL RATING: Three, on a scale of 1 to 5, or *** (three stars, or in this case, asterisks)
