Guess what I just got!

Yes, I just got the 3DS! Here's my review of it:

The 3DS is nothing less of a marvel of modern technology. However, it's not QUITE as good as expected. True, it delivers depth to your games and makes them look cool, but there are some cons as well. First off, the 3D is EXTREMELY sensitive. Just move your head a little and it goes wacko. that's my main concern, other than the short battery life. Another thing, even though it didn't happen to me, is that the 3D hurts some people's eyes. I do think that the 3D is very well executed in games like Pilotwings Resort, AR target shooting, and Face Raiders. Face Raiders is one of the best executions of interactivity I have ever seen. The 3DS is amazing, really, but just don't take it on long car trips with the 3D on, because you will suffer some major problems from the sensitivity and battery life. There is a technology that lets you view 3D from multiple "Sweet Spots", but it's too expensive now. Maybe when it comes down, Nintendo will make another version of the 3DS, without that problem. And I believe advances in battery life are being made right now, so that's good.

Now, the look of the 3DS itself is amazing. It looks very stylish, to say the least. The top of the top screen has a glossy finish that, amazingly, doesn't pick up fingerprints. The new slide pad feels great on your thumb, and the buttons are very responsive. The speakers deliver very high quality sound, and the depth slider works very smoothly as well. My only concern about this is the stylus. While it's very solid and it doesn't break, it can be hard to get out of its spot sometimes. You will find yourself using your finger most of the time unless you keep your stylus out the entire time.

So basically, the 3DS is amazing, but with drawbacks. I give it a score of 8.5/10.

Nah, there are too many problems for a 9.9.

Re: Guess what I just got!

Hurting eyes shouldn't be considered a problem do to the slider, and the whole 6 and under thing is just to avoid lawsuits. There's no scientifically proven evidence it would damage their eyes.

As for the batteries, I can say the life amount is extremely false. There's a ton of it. And the whole thing about the stylus, they don't use it enough in pre-installs, but it's useful to grab it out for Nintendogs+cats.

Yeah, I guess your right, but it kind of defeats the purpose to keep the 3D off all of the time.

you dont keep it off

you adjust it theres different levels of effect.

So yeah at least a 9 if not 10.

I was originally going to say 57lbs of Potatoes, but I guess I was wrong.

Well, glad you got the 3DS. I'm going to save my money for a NGP/PSP2 (honestly, what is the official name?) and be happy I didn't buy another DS within such a short time frame. But hey, have fun with it and ignore this post.

So, the 3DS is bigger than an XL? Hm, by last count, the 3DS was the size of a Lite. Which is a tad small for me.

The only problem with the PSP was, like you said, games. That's it. Everything else is just fine. Whatever, I can already tell this is going to go down in flames if this continues.

wait what. I meant more extravagant or awesome. and its little bit bigger than lite smaller than DSi, and the control nub helps stop the sharp corners from cramping you.

but like games aren't even a problem with nintendo systems. and if psp is meant for games i really dont understand how that being the only problem is a small deal. you need the software to back up your system, which psp doesnt deliver.

Re: Guess what I just got!

I also got a 3DS today with Pilotwings Resort!

I'm still blown away by how effective the 3D is - even with the one sweet spot, this far surpasses all other 3D tech I've seen.

Sure the battery life is short, but then consider how much tech this thing has to run at once, and it's actually pretty long (though I'd be really happy if they improved it in the future).

My rating: 8.8/10

You know what? I don't care. The 3DS seems way to gimmicky to me, and I don't need another DS when I have 3 functional ones already. Also, I think 3D isn't something to focus on. I find 3D really stupid to be honest.

And yes, the PSP can deliver. I found games to be more fun and enjoyable on it compared to the DS (even if they were few and far between), and I even got some homebrew stuff on working on the PSP. Try playing Battlefront Elite Squadron on the DS, then try it on the PSP, then tell me which is better. You'll find the PSP version is light years (heh) ahead of the DS.

Both the NGP and 3DS are going to be more extravagant and awesome then their older brethren. I just don't fall for the gimmicks.

It's impossible to get the 3D effect on camera because cameras only take pictures in 2D. If you don't believe it, go to a video game store and try it out for yourself - trust me, it works.
