Error with scripts

When im on scrtach , a window pops up like this, usually in the forums

Code:

An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 180
Char: 3
Error: Object required
Code: 0
URL: http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic

Do you want to continue running these scripts?
   [yes] [no]

Im not a computer whiz but why does this pop-up? And its just been happening about a week ago.
Even as i previewed it, that same box came up!

Re: Error with scripts

I believe it is telling you that the PHP is incorrectly scripted, on line 180, character 3, in the page http://www.scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic, which is basically the only page the forum has. And PHP is telling you that it needs an object to complete the script...

Re: Error with scripts

Are you using Internet Explorer? I've noticed a lot of those errors when using it.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

...or Opera. Or Safari. Or SeaMonkey. Or Google Chrome. Or whatever.
Or keep IE. But switching to something else should make those errors go away (on Scratch, that is).

Re: Error with scripts

That's very strange. I am not able to replicate the problem. I assume you're able to read some forum posts so when exactly does the error happen? Does it always happen? Could you try to describe the whole process that leads you to that error? What version of IE are you using?

Re: Error with scripts

I am having the same problem when I'm using IE.

The message has nothing to do with php, but it's a javascript error message.

Normally, IE only shows a yellow icon in the lower left corner, but when you double-click it the window with extra information shows up. You can choose if it should show up immediately when the error occurs or not in IE.

I think you should check your javascripts andres  big_smile

PS: I normally use the newest firefox (3.0.2) but I tried with IE6.

Re: Error with scripts

Wait... My computer, on other punbb forums, messes up like this as well. I don't know why, but when it posts, it messes up. So now, when using punbb forums I need to use a different computer! Does it only happen when you click "new posts" or you make a post? If so, you may want to use a different computer.

Yeah, about 8 out of 10 times it happens, usually when i make a forum post, reply to one or just view one it happens.

Oh thanks for the clarification. IE6 is being phased out by Microsoft and it has been one of the worst browsers ever. I wonder if we should spend time fixing things for IE6 or we should just encourage people to use Firefox 3 or IE7.

So I should download Firefox and stop using Microsoft’s internet explorer?

Re: Error with scripts

IE7 and IE6 should work fine but since you're having troubles with the browser I think you should try Firefox just to see if that helps. Firefox is free.
