People are quitting...

It seems as though every time a good Scratcher quits, others quit along with the Scratcher... A good example is The-Blur's project about why he quit and right under that is a comment from VegetoSuperSayan saying that he's gonna quit too... Sure enough, he made a project that was posted a few minutes later than his comment which almost proves that he quit partially because The-Blur quit. Also, from reading their project description and comments, one of the reasons that they both quit is because they have never had a project make it on the front page. Now, the reason I am positing this in the show and tell forum is because, wouldn't it help prevent people from quitting if there was a spot on the front page where you could copy and paste a link from a project you want to nominate for something along the lines of, "This week's top picks among the Scratch community" or something like that?

I'll post a pic about this later if you still don't understand what i mean.

"the top picks" a.k.a. "what the community is loving".

Re: People are quitting...

Some people quit because they have flash or something.

Some people quit because Scratch is just not for them.

You can't stop people from quitting, it's their own decision.

What you can do is propose their project to be featured or something, encourage them, or help them out.

Re: People are quitting...

I can't believe that people are quitting Scratch just because they don't get enough of those "fame" or "love its" or "comments".  .__. I mean, maybe they should put a little more effort into their projects. I mean I do see a lot of projects out there that just have the sprite cat and nothing else, no animation and all. Yet, they complain on how no one is giving them a bit of fame. Also, I sometimes see people complaining on how "they don't get to be in the front page of Scratch." They just need to be featured by someone, but it's just that no one is featuring them because the project is probably not good enough or something. .__. In my opinion, I think that it's not a smart idea to quit just because you don't get fame, instead of worrying about fame, they should just have fun and make animations or games. But all of this is in my perspective though. ^^;

Re: People are quitting...

well, my projects have never gotten any more than 9 veiws, but i'm still putting all my effort into them, it's just a case of sharing them at a time when most people are logged on or logging on. around mid-day on weekends but during the week, around three fifteen works just as well!

Quitting is becoming contagious.

Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?

The front page is mostly just luck. No offense to anyone, but a lot of front page projects don't take a ton of talent. People need to remember that before quitting. Although I admit that doing an amazing project and getting 3 views and no comments would be a bit depressing.

The next version of scratch will be in flash, so why quit because you have it?

I believe kayybee meant the Flash program (an in coding in Flash as opposed to coding in Scratch).

Scratch is meant to be simple because it's aimed at those unfamiliar with programming - it's natural for people to move onto another, more powerful programming language once they've exhausted Scratch's possibilities. ^^

Re: People are quitting...

People have always quit, are always quitting, and always will continue to quit. There's various reasons, but it's their decision. Sometimes it's bad, but it really is up to the person.

Re: People are quitting...

I think all in all, the front page thing may not be with each one of the quitters. I got on the front page once. It was my first uploaded video (i think) but it was in the "newest projects" section. This means absolutely nothing. If you get the front page, whoopee for you. But the main idea of scratch and other websites like youtube is so that you can enjoy and show the world what you love and can make.

Re: People are quitting...

If they quit, you can't stop them. If you beg for them back and give them something they don't deserve, people will hate them because they don't have anything that's looked at. Then they quit, people beg them...

You can't always stop people from quitting, they have the freedom to quit whenever they want/need to.  hmm
