Cannot play sounds

Hello Scratchers!
When programming with scratch, i can't play drums and notes on my computer (It's notebook with Windows XP SP2).
When i use [blocks]<play note(12)for(1)secss>[/blocks] nothing happens!
What can i do then? Shall i install plug-in like MIDI or anything else?

Maybe your volume is turned off.
