"black" is actually really dark blue. Maybe make all RGB values 1 (right now, it's 0,0,5) so if you change brightness to 100, it ends up white instead of blue?

I'm not sure they can get an exact Black. It's been like this for a while now.

I don't think they will use Squeak anymore for Scratch 2.0...
EDIT: Wait. Where are you talking about? I thought that you're talking about the edges in full screen, but it seems that you're not talking about those...
