Pi Day Announcement

I have to admit, I was not impressed with the hurriedly made looking announcement for Pi Day. It is a holiday. Why not do the Scratch logo thing? We always do that on holidays.  sad

Starting around Thanksgiving 2010, there haven't been any holiday logos, and the Scratch Team said that changing the logo has given them a lot of difficulty.

Re: Pi Day Announcement

Its not a world wide holiday though, I've had to go to school, hardly anyone knows about it outside America I geuss... Mainly because you have you're month before the day. Why do you do that anyway?

And why don’t we dominantly use the metric system? Sometimes, America just doesn’t think.

I have no idea. It makes a whole lot more sense than our measurement system, where every conversion is different. Pretty much every part of the world recognizes the superiority of a measurement system based on multiples of 10 but us stubborn Americans. There have even been attempts to change this, to no success.  hmm

Yeah, I remember how the International Peace Day one kept glitching and was still around for a week or so after the actual day. That's probably why they've stopped doing them for the most part.

Some of it's hard, but it's easy if you've done it your whole life. The only problem I have is I never remember how many feet make up a mile.  tongue

Americans still measure in feet? I like feet better than meters, but with things like Dates etc. It makes sense to have days/months/years.

I like biggest to smallest.

Is Pi day really a public holiday for you?

Re: Pi Day Announcement

Not as big as Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Haunika (spelling? lol), or Labor Day, or Independence Day.

But it’s just kind of a fun little date pattern. It’s not like we get off school, or anything.

Then pi day wouldn't exist and we wouldn't waste a day eating pie!

Re: Pi Day Announcement

Perhaps you should make a separate topic to discuss measurement systems  smile

As for the logo - I'm sorry that we have not been able to change it as often as we used to.  It's a combination of lack of resources (the website caching has really complicated the issue) and lack of submissions that adhere to the guidelines (the images must be the proper dimensions).

Hopefully in the future we can free up some time and automate the logo update process so that we can do it more frequently.  There was an attempt to automate it a while back that had the unfortunate result of crashing the whole site for an hour.  With Scratch 2.0 rolling out this year, there are a lot of other things that need our attention that are higher on the priority list.  It is not forgotten though.

Yeah, I was going to make that other topic later.  smile
