Ability to make a sig is now tied to Scratcher status
All new accounts will need to be full Scratchers before they can create sigs (instead of the old 15 day waiting period). We made this change to make it a bit harder for commercial spammers to spam our site.
So if you are a New Scratcher - welcome! Just keep Scratching and be patient, and you'll be able to have a sig in no time. 
Help Scratchers make the leap to 2.0!

I don't think so, but there was a discussion thread talking about the limitations of signature heights and widths, etc.. Just keep sigs to a relatively medium size.

Actually, it was harder to manage when New Scratchers had the ability to make signatures after 15 days. ^^;
Too many commercial spammers would make several posts in a few days, then lie in wait for the 15 day rule to pass to make a sig - the result is that a lot of commercial spam would go undetected for some time on the website, which is bad.

Yeah, that's a concern. It's a shame that we have to put restrictions on everybody to control the actions of a few people that feel the need to damage the community, like trolls and spammers.
But, despite the new rules, I still see a lot of new accounts showing up - so I guess it's not keeping everybody away

I wouldn't be surprised if you or other Scratcher haven't seen them, the technique that spammers were using makes detecting the spam pretty hard. Commercial spammers post and then make sigs after 15 days - what happens is that most users don't see the sig spam (unless they decide to go 15+ days back worth of posts), so by the time the sig spam is detected, the SEO damage as been done already.
Everything is better when you add a little cheddar, because when you have cheese your life is at ease

Yes, but all the posts i saw were already SEO spam, no signature included 
And i normally check up on those topics, so i can report them straight away

You check up on topics that haven't been posted in over 15 days or more? 
I never imaged a Scratcher who would check up through 22 pages of old topics in one sitting.
