Re: Beta Flash player

I think the player is good for online difficulties, but the Java player is what we are used to, at least I am, and the flash is similar to the presentation mode yet the Java is similar to the actual viewer. Either way, I don't have a specific opinion toward it.

You can drag sprites over the gray bar with the green flag on it!

This is a temporary signature. It will exist until I think of something witty.

suggestion: why don't you use HTML5?

I believe BoltBait asked that question before and this is what the Scratch Team answered  wink  :

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I have a very serious question about the new 2.0 viewer.

Why did you choose Flash over HTML5/JavaScript?

Had you choosen the latter, you'd automatically have support for iPhone et. al.

We agree that HTML5/JS would have some clear advantages, and we considered it for Scratch 2.0. Unfortunately, our development team found that HTML5/JS does not support all of the features we want/need (at least not yet -- it might in a few years). Here are a few of the issues (courtesy of John Maloney, who leads Scratch application development):

* Flash has cross-platform support for microphone and video input; HTML5 has neither.

* HTML5 doesn't yet support the audio API's necessary to write your own MIDI synth (real-time audio generation), so the Scratch note/drum blocks can't be implemented.

* Although the HTML5 Canvas does support bitmap manipulation, it's slow.

* The HTML5 specs are still evolving. Which features are implemented at varies across browsers, and sometimes a given feature behaves differently in different browsers.

Re: Beta Flash player

In my project http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/s_federici/1647993, when I move to another tab of the same browser window (both in firefox and chrome) and then come back, it looks like the flash player is "firing" very quickly all the events it couldn't show when the tab was not visibile (the action is really fast). Then, as soon as all events are fired, the speed goes back to normal. The Java player instead works fine.

Re: Beta Flash player

Blindingly fast, but my project
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/EvilGenius/1658639
seems to be using the same sound mapping as the one it was based off of (it's a remix of it.) But definitely fast.

Re: Beta Flash player

I like it a lot! It processes faster than turbo speed, but executes actions at just the right speed! Some things don't work with it, though, like my
project. It shows the difference in the way the pen works. It looks great when you're graphing, but in practical uses in games, it doesn't work very well.
It also shows a color detection glitch. I used the <color[ black ]is over[ black>, and it acted like <touching color[ black>.
Otherwise, excellent! I like it a lot!

A black box or a circle? The black box has been there ever since the Java player came out (like 2007  tongue )
