And the earthquake, AKA "The Big One" (in California) could trigger one in Chicago and cause a chain so powerful, that it could split North America apart, possibly by as much as 10 inches. Creepy.... (I heard that on a documentary about earthquakes)

My high school's band was in that area... I'm wondering if they're okay...

I saw this on BBC News this morning, it was the only story they were reporting all day. It started around 80 miles from Sendai and 200 miles from Tokyo off in the sea. Apparently, the whole tectonic plate which Japan was on rumbled violently. The magnitude was recently and officially announced as 8.9, the 6th most powerful earthquake ever.
And then the tsunami. Have any of you guys seen the videos of the sludge, water and debris moving over the land? It was scary just to watch it on the news, moving so fast!
I feel really sorry for the Japenese right now, especially those in Sendai.![]()
I saw it on some American network (not shown) last night at a restraunt. Man, it looked horrible. What will happen to anime?

I hope everyone is OK over there in Japan. Some of the video I have seen makes me think it's a miniature; All toys. Then I realize it's real. Then I realize that must be horrible to have happen to you, your country. Not a fun time over there.
And now I would inject poor humor into this post, but I fear it would be taken the wrong way.

I live in Japan, too. My classmates and I were doing the daily cleaning for the school, you know, the sweeping and washing floors. I was at the top of the floor.
And, I kind of fell onto my friend. Heh heh The earthquake was mad. I hope my grandparents are all right. They live in...Sendai. I haven't heard from them, and if you have noticed, I wasn't on for several days...

We face serious difficulties and deep sorrow.
This disaster is still continuing. I cannot imagine how many people were killed.
But I believe we can rebuild our country and return to normal life in near future.
Your words help us through this difficult time.

That area of japan gets a lot of earthquakes. Japan IS a Volcanic Island Arc, formed by oceanic volcanoes. it would not exist if it weren't for the large amounts of geological activity there.
It is very dangerous to live someplace like that. I'm glad I live on the east coast of the Atlantic.

They can only delay a nuclear melt down. There's alreadly too much radiation.
Liquid Nitrogen... That's what I first thought when the water was too hot and needed constant swapping...
If one plant has a nuclear meltdown then the others can not be protected from a nuclear melt down if something happens. It will take millions of years for the uranium to be a very low level.
