It would seem better to me to put a comma before 'my'.

This, my friends, is why I don't homeschool.

Eh? He didn't say he homeschooled. All he said was that he didn't go to public school. He could be private schooled or, for all you know, not go to school at all. And anyways, that's a bit insulting considering that I homeschool and you're judging all homeschoolers based on one person/curriculum. Finally, note that rabbit1131 might not even be in your same grade...

I am homeschooled. And I didn't want it to be "This (pause) my friends (pause) is why I do not go to public school." I wanted it to be "This my friends (pause) is why I do not go to public school."

You really should tell Childline if you're being bullied. Don't suffer in silence. Tell a teacher what happened, or talk to a friend.

And in public school you have to be one grade. I am in sixth grade, but because I am so smart I am in seventh grade math.

Re: Sick and Bullied

In public school, you can get out of class with anything.

Once I had an itchy eye. SEND HOME
Once a girl fell down. SEND HOME

@Scratchthatguys-Tell your teacher about the bully, or ask your big, big, big brother to grind him into pulp. Or do that yourself.

And my teacher said, don't use the word smart, it builds expectations and you'll cheat to meet them. Or something like that.

Re: Sick and Bullied

I have been bullied before. It stopped when I switched to a private school, and no private schools aren't for weird people, it's really just the same without bulling, although you will have a dress code which doesn't really matter. My school does a lot of fun things like field-trips.

Re: Sick and Bullied

I'm sorry that you got bullied. I don't get bullied and I don't know why- I'm a total nerd. Anyway, good luck.  smile

To those of you arguing about different types of schools: different formats work for different types of people. I go to public school and I like it, but I would never say it's better or worse than home school or private school.

To those of you arguing about commas:

Purdue OWL (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/607/02/) wrote:

3. Use a pair of commas in the middle of a sentence to set off clauses, phrases, and words that are not essential to the meaning of the sentence. Use one comma before to indicate the beginning of the pause and one at the end to indicate the end of the pause.

Here are some clues to help you decide whether the sentence element is essential:

    * If you leave out the clause, phrase, or word, does the sentence still make sense?
    * Does the clause, phrase, or word interrupt the flow of words in the original sentence?
    * If you move the element to a different position in the sentence, does the sentence still make sense?

If you answer "yes" to one or more of these questions, then the element in question is nonessential and should be set off with commas. Here are some example sentences with nonessential elements:

Clause: That Tuesday, which happens to be my birthday, is the only day when I am available to meet.

Phrase: This restaurant has an exciting atmosphere. The food, on the other hand, is rather bland.

Word: I appreciate your hard work. In this case, however, you seem to have over-exerted yourself.

It should be "This, my friends, is why I do not go to public school."
