You have to be British to understand that.
It means from one problem to the other. Thats what happened to me, just now.
EDIT: Okay guys, I did not know everyone knew it. I moved to Australia and NOBODY uses it here.

I'm not British and I understand. It's not a phrase only used in Britain, it's used everywhere.

Okay get this, I had to hand in a Economic Science essay today, so I hurried into it at one of our breaks. I finish it like a minute before the bell rings, then I remember I have to hand in a History assignment, about my family tree to about 1700. So out of luck I use the real names until after my grandparents, I do not know my great-grandparents' names.
Later that day its my 'parent-to-teacher-and-child-converence' so my teacher asks about our family(I started blushing at that point, because I knew where this was going) and she asks "Well your son handed in a history assignment today, and I must admit, it was very interesting. Your uncle Kecklerry must have been a fascinating person."
This is the conversatioin that followed:
"Excuse me? I think you must be confused. My uncle's name is Martin."
"What? On the paper it clearly says 'Kecklerry'."
At this point they both turned around and looked at me(with eyes that could murder).
"ALVIN!"
And now I'm grounded for 3 weeks. No TV, PSP, or social life for 3 weeks. Luckily my dad forgot computer.

My real name is Avery. But everyone calls me Alvin... can't imagine why. I'm nothing like the mischievous little chipmunk.
