part 2 of my running tutorial on making tile-based RPG system is up!!

in case you missed it, Part 1

Part 2

the gallery you should subscribe to for updates
I started a gallery called "Isometric tile-based RPG tutorial in here!!!" in which I shall upload newer projects as I develop this system. The latest installment, part 2, has an extremely in-depth explanation of the entire system in the project notes.

In short, this system will use over 100 sprites stamping together to draw the game map, a map editor to create the RPG world, a play mode for the obvious reason, and lists to store map data. I will do all the coding and artwork and will regularly update my progress with new projects in the gallery I mentioned. If you have any questions, post a comment or email me at [removed per forum policy --fullmoon] or do a search for Locomule on Facebook.

In case you have doubts as to whether I know what I'm talking about or will follow through (I would) please check out my earlier version of this same project. The main difference was that it wasn't done in isometric view so it doesn't look very 3d at all. It has a fully functioning map editor and a play mode that lets you run around on the maps you make. I did less than 20 maps in the project as a demo but there is room for 50 maps, even though the project size is only 1 meg! That is one of the beauties of using a tile system that is particularly suited to Scratch's current project size limitations. Not to mention with tiles, you can create some really awesome maps and collision detection headaches (common in Scratch) are a thing of the past!

So if you are a programmer (aren't we all here?) then start with the first project and jump into the mix. Saying you are doing ANYTHING for the first time on Scratch is dangerous territory but I have never seen a single project that comes close to what we will end up with here. Likewise, feel free to rip my sprites, remix the project or whatever! Please do! Anyway, when this is finished, it will be a complete system that anyone can use to create their own RPG type game and distribute on Scratch.

We'll just have to wait and see how this ports over to Scratch 2.0
If they up the project size constraints and add multi-player support, this could develop into quite an interesting project!

peace all
