Scratch For Chrome and Chrome OS

Hey everyone, as some of you know, I have a Chrome Pilot Notebook as a developer. My first App is for scratch, but I cannot publish it to the chrome app store yet because I haven't payed the developer fee and I do not own Scratch, but if you have google chrome, you can download my app and add it.
http://i52.tinypic.com/dfc26e.png

Here are some step-by-step instructions of how to get it:
1. Download this file http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16495156/Scratch%20App.zip
2. Extract the zip file
3. Click the Wrench in the upper right corner of Chrome
4. Click Tools then click extensions
5. There should be a thing that says "developer mode" click on that.
6. Select load unpacked extension
7. Browse for the Scratch App folder and select it.
8. Done.

I am working on a new version of the app as we speak.

Cool. It might be published by the Scratch Team when Scratch 2.0 comes out, as it will be online.  big_smile

I am thinking we should have a PHP collab for remaking Scratch for that.  big_smile

bbbeb, I was thinking the same thing. Wanna do it with me?

EDIT: I have requested a Scratch API from the scratch team, so we can access account information. Do you know how to make chrome apps? There is fantastic documentation at code.google.com/chrome/apps.

We don't have to make a usable scratch application, because that is coming out in a month or so anyways. We should just work on the other features.

I really doubt Scratch has an API ready for you and even if they did, I wouldn't give it to you because it could greatly compromise Scratch's security. One thing you probably could ask for is simple user integration...

Scratch team email I got wrote:

You are welcome to use the API

I still have no clue how to use it.

Chrome apps can also control your browser, so there is sometimes more to them than just bookmarks. My new scratch app I hope to work on will pop up a small speech bubble when you get a notification.

To make it even better, right-click the app, and check "Open as window".

Re: Scratch For Chrome and Chrome OS

The only problem with the app is the Scratch Cat has to be stretched horizontally. But this will make my life a lot easier. Goodbye typing in scratch.mit.edu and hello to the button of coolness!

bye 1.4, we all loved you. but we all outgrew the site. 2.0 is a welcome change.
