I just realized somthing.

It seems like the "Newest Projects" Section is always filled with "pointless" stuff like this.(No offense to the creator  smile   )

(I know he/she's probably still learning Scratch, it's just that I find a lot of that on the "Newest Projects" Section.)

Re: I just realized somthing.

It seems like a lot of the scratchers who really program have been talking a lot about this issue lately. If you think about it, most of the scratchers who just do art don't really use the forums much, so they don't have a say. I don't think it's really fair to judge projects behind the creator's backs, then again, I can't say that I disagree with the people who think that the front page is covered in "useless" projects.
The only thing that I have to say is that the kid who made the Sheriff project may just be learning how to use Scratch and wanted to test something out. No big deal. But as for those who have those projects front-paged, that's where the problem lies.

Re: I just realized somthing.

I wouldn't call it pointless... I just consider it less complicated than stuff such as this. A pointless project would be one with a white background, no sprites, no scripts, no sounds, and so on. But sadly, those do exist Dx

I fall: It's a tragedy. You fall: It's comedy.
Hmph enjoy your fall - I get a lovely spring... without pans of new leaves.

Re: I just realized somthing.

To you that project might look pointless.  To a young child just learning about computers, yes, it truly is amazing.  To be able to take your own drawings and make them move on a computer screen is pretty amazing.

Scratch is a great language for beginning programmers - so you are going to see a lot of "first steps".  Everybody needs to learn how to crawl before they can walk.  It's really important to recognize the effort that goes into what may appear to us to be very simple projects and to be encouraging to the authors so that they are motivated to continue their learning process.

That's why we put such a huge emphasis on keeping Scratch a friendly and supportive place.  It's really important for young learners that their work is appreciated and supported.

I totaly agree. Just look at my first project GhostAndCat.At the time, it was the coolest thing ever to me. Now it think it stinks. You can really see the learning curve from then to now. Back then, if someone had told me it stinks, it would make me a bit dissapointed. Soon, that scratcher may be better than you slapperbob!  smile

I know. It's just that I see a lot more of those kinds of projects than I would expect on the "Newest Projects" section. hmm
