I guess I am sort of disappointed that my general store will no longer be able to sell diamond or iron or gold or lapis or coal because the bank will have all the business. But that is what happens in business. You can still "sell" them, but you have to sell them at the bank. Anyone who wants to can sell at the bank.
I am the owner of walmart. I can't sell plants at my store anymore. I must sell them at the government plant building.
No, that's not it. You can't sell dollars at Walmart, you must sell them at the government bank building.
We're talking about turning an item into currency (i.e. dollars).

I JUST HAD AN AWESOME idea!!!!! What if... We asked mathwizz to make money? We could use it to buy stuff and the store owners could use it to buy stuff from other stores? You would need a certain amount of money to buy houses! We would all get 100 dollars to start off with. And we can pay each other for doing jobs. You would get more money by doing jobs for the community. Everyone would get money for doing things in the community. And the bank would contain money to get handed out when people do work!!! It needs some work but then stores wouldn't lose business!

It'd be more trouble to do it his way because we'd all have to mod in mathwizz's money to be able to use it, and whenever Minecraft is updated, Mathwizz will have to reprogram his mod to fit with the current update.

But Diamond is used for other stuff than money. We need a currency system if you insist. But it should not be ores. Stores sell those. And besides. Mathwizz could easily create money.

You don't have to use diamonds for money, but you won't be allowed to sell them outside of the bank. Same with the other ores.

I intend to sell them in my store. End of story. It will destroy my store not to sell them.

I didn't say it would; all we're trying to do is make it easier to trade four quarters for a dollar, and then to encourage people to take four quarters and give their dollar, five quarters will be given rather than four.

Let's try this sketch:
While Little Johnny was walking to school one day, he found a dollar on the ground! But Little Johnny couldn't use a dollar- it was too much to spend at one time! So, as soon as school was over, Little Johnny went to the bank to exchange his dollar for four quarters. "Hello!" said the teller lady. "Welcome to Scratchia Public Bank! How may I help you?"
"I'd like to get four quarters for my dollar!" Little Johnny said enthusiastically. "I'm afraid that in order to exchange your dollar for four quarters, you're going to have to pay a nickel. Do you have a nickel?"
"No," Little Johny said sorrowfully. The bank teller took pity on Little Johnny and decided to help him. "Tell you what," she said, "I'll give you my nickel!" So Little Johnny received four quarters for his dollar. "But wait, why did he have to pay the nickel?" you ask. Let's ask the bank teller lady. "Why did Little Johnny have to pay the nickel?" The bank teller lady got a greedy, evil look in her eyes and said..."SO I CAN STEAL IT! Just kidding! Little Johnny had to pay the nickel because the money didn't just appear out of nowhere, it came from a patron. The patron allowed his quarters to be exchanged for dollars, and, for his trouble, he gets a nickel every time someone exchanges a dollar."
Thanks, bank teller lady!

But, even if you do get them from the bank, you can still use them as items. If you have it in your store, it would be like going to Walmart and being able to buy a dollar, if you get what I mean.

Random idea... Why don't we let someone use INVedit to give everyone a full stack of slimeballs to use as currency?
That way no mods will be needed and rabbit will stop complaining (no offense, just messing) ;P
And seriously are we making so much trouble just for a trading system? The bank idea is fine imo.

I guess you could, but it'd be hard to compete with the bank's tiny fee.

I don't get most of the stuff you're talking about but here's what I think:
We have a bank and you can put stuff in whenever you wan't and you will get interest each turn (x% of what you put in) and you can also take money out. IF you do this you have to pay the bank a small sum of money (y% of what you took out). So the interest you get comes from the money people pay when taking money. You also have to repay the money eventually.
Idk if that will work but we could try.
Offline
Another idea:
We could have a council (one or two people) who we have to pay a small amount to each turn. But if we help improve the city (eg. roads, signs etc.) they'll pay us.
