Do YOU Clutter?

Many of you right now may be thinking "What IS Clutter?!?!" Well, Clutter is basically a way to connect Scratch Projects. To create a Clutter, you choose several different Scratch projects that have been uploaded to the site (they can be by you or any other scratcher!) and then choose how to link them together. There are 3 types: Story (use the arrows to move to the next project), Secret Word (you must know the word to move on to the next project), or Link Word (the word you type will bring you to the project associated with that word).

So, if you aren't on Clutter now, go check it out!

If you do Clutter, good for you!

P.S- what would you call someone who uses Clutter? Like if you use Scatch you are a Scratcher, but for Clutter would you be a Clutter-er or something else?  hmm

Re: Do YOU Clutter?

I used Clutter very briefly, and my only clutter was a compilation of my worst projects, which happened to be my only series.

Clutter...A Clutter! That's what the Clutter version on Scratcher should be.

yeah, a lot of people don't necessaraly stay on clutter because the community is so small (i just created the 1518th clutter  tongue  and only 975 registered users...). but that is kinda counterintuitive sadly  sad

Re: Do YOU Clutter?

I clutter. I actually have a series called "The Scratch Channel" on there. The first (February 3rd) edition is on the second page of Top Viewed clutters.  big_smile

Re: Do YOU Clutter?

Who cares, what difference does it make if he's on clutter as opposed to someone else being on clutter? He's not above other scratchers.

Re: Do YOU Clutter?

I now am starting to use clutter somewhat frequently, to collect similar projects together. I sort of like it more than a gallery for some things, because it gives you more organization and allows good collaboration. I haven't made games that are exclusively based on clutter, but I just like the fact that you can go to the next project, its good for if you have about 900 projects and you don't have the time to click 5 times to find the one you want (or you have to open in a new tab and it can get messy) its just cleaner.

A way that I used the linkword feature is that I made a clutter and then a list of all linkwords in the clutter notes, and then each project is accessed by typing its linkword. I used it in an educational project about triangles that is a collaboration with dapontes (he started it, but I stole his idea and created the other projects.)

I can also imagine a secret word clutter that is themed on cryptography, where to get the next linkword, you have to use the project to help you learn and understand how to decrypt and encrypt the code before you will get the code to progress.

Also, if you had a new type of variable, a "clutter variable" ( global / passed variable), that could be used by all projects in the clutter, you could probably make something like clubpenguin or  something where you have separate projects for different areas, for different minigames, etc.

you could have linkwords that are completely controlled from within the project, instead of the user typing them in to go somewhere new.
You would have the equivalent of a sub-internet, a very safe version of internet abilities, where you can link to other people's places as long as they are collaborating.
You could probably even have an RPG, where the RPG itself is a clutter, and people joining it become collaborators, and they link to each other's RPG Profiles (more like a social network than actual interaction between characters... but if you had the ability to make "classes" of sprites / objects, and then load character data into them...)

::CONS::
anyways, the main problem with clutter is that it has a lot of problems, and also that many people don't know where to start.
First, the problems: Many things on clutter don't work. The java player version is outdated (I made a clutter for my "Wheels" projects to show how it developed over time, but the version of the java player that clutter uses doesn't support the ( |var| of (SpriteNameAsVariable) ) block introduced in 1.4 I believe (It, and the {point towards (spriteName) } block have had a history of not working, as it did not work in the beta.)
This feature works in the current java player on this site, but not on the clutter site. I need it for the wheels game to work.
Also, formatting gets messed up in project notes.
Finally, not very many other people use it. I would suggest that the best way to get started is to join in a collaboration, if there were any active ones.
