Scratch Contest - What's your best project?

I will be hosting a contest here on Scratch. This a programming contest, so it's mainly about your programming skills. Animations are probably not a good idea. The graphics, addictiveness, originality, and other things also get you a better score. The music on your project will NOT be scored, so it doesn't need any sound.

I will need 4 other judges to view, play the WHOLE project, and give it a score.

Judges:

1 - TheBlueRocky
2 -
3 -
4 -
5 -

You can only submit one project, but you are allowed to modify it or switch it with another one of your projects before the deadline. Remember, the project you submit must be 100% yours, unless you are allowed to use specific scripts or graphics through permission from the original creator of the image. If your project also has false credit, it cannot be submitted.

NOTE ON CREDIT:

If someone creates an image, that creator is the ONLY person who should get credit. If you got the images from a video game, give credit to the game itself or the game's graphic designers. If you find a image that someone says, "These are awesome images! Give credit if used!", but they obviously make them, politely ask them to give credit to the original creator of image and do not give them credit for the image. Also, don't use it unless you can find the real creator and ask for permission. If someone says, "Ask permission before using!", "Only for...", or "No credit needed!", them listen to what they ask as long as they created the image.

Each judge will score your project by giving it a 0, being the worst, to a 10, being the best, in every catagory. I will then add up your scores from every judge and write it as a percentage. A final score of 250, or 100%, is the best you can get.

Catagories:

Programming Skill
Originality
Graphics
Addictiveness
Creativity

A judge cannot enter a project, so you have a choice of submitting a project or judging all the submissions.

The top 3 winners will recieve the respective awards:

1st place -

A pixeled gold trophy.
A pixeled gold medal.
Project *might* be suggested to be featured if it fits all the featuing requirements.
Project will be on display in this topic.

2nd place -

A pixeled silver medal.
Project will be on display in this topic.

3rd place -

A pixeled bronze medal.
Project will be on display in this topic.

All other entries -

A pixeled participation medal.

The deadline is March 10th, so get your entries in as soon as you can! Judges must send in their scores of each submission before March 10th. The results will be posted on the 10th or 11th.

Participants:
------------------

Square by Sunrise-Moon - Holds 34% of the competition
Labyrinth by nathandrake - Holds 27% of the competition
Stone Blocks I by V4LOVER - Holds 39% of the competition

Have fun!

Re: Scratch Contest - What's your best project?

My scores for Square by Sunrise-Moon:

Programming Skill
-----------------
8/10

Comments: Great programming! I really like how you can't go through the blocks from below it. The game must have taken at least a few days to finish. Great job!

Originality
-----------
5/10

Comments: It's a great game, but I've seen too many games on Scratch that are platformers with cubes. The black/white world switching is cool, but I've seen that too. You've implemented the ideas well, though. Keep up the good work!

Graphics
--------
4/10

Comments: The game uses the graphics well, but I think it's a tad too plain. How about making different shaped lands other than just squares and rectangles? You could also add a backdrop of grey silhouettes of objects like wilted trees, water, flowers, etc. It could use some improvement...

Addictiveness
-------------
7/10

Comments: Well made! I couldn't stop playing it! Very nice!

Creativity
----------
5/10

Comments: It's good, but it needs some more pizazz. It reminds me of many other projects I've played on Scratch. Very good, though!

Judge's Overall Score:
----------------------
----------------------
29 or 58%

Good Job! 4 more judges to go!

Re: Scratch Contest - What's your best project?

My scores for Labyrinth by nathandrake:

Programming Skill
-----------------
6/10

Comments: The programming is simple, nothing too special. It could use some extra features. Nice work, though.

Originality
-----------
7/10

Comments: Cool game, but I really don't understand the plot very well. Maybe if you added some more details on the game it would be better. It is yes, quite original, but it gives you a confused emotion - who is the main character, and why is he there?

Graphics
--------
2/10

Comments: I like the how you made every level different, but it could some better graphics. Try adding more colors and more details on your graphics. I understand, not everyone is a great artist. It just needs some more effort.

Addictiveness
-------------
4/10

Comments: The controls make the game very fun, but I got bored of playing very quickly. It was also too hard. If the levels had less hazards and tight spaces it might be much more fun.

Creativity
----------
6/10

Comments: It's very unique, but gives the player no real feeling. Mario games give you a feeling that you are in a mushroomy field in the Mushroom Kingdom with other worlds. Labyrinth has no real feeling of location. Maybe you should give it more in-depth locations in the levels, like a cave or a volcano. I don't quite understand where the game takes place.

Judge's Overall Score:
----------------------
----------------------
25 or 50%

Nice Work! 4 more judges to go!

Sounds good, I'll enter Disaster.

Note:  Keep in mind this game has a huge file and can run pretty slowly.

Re: Scratch Contest - What's your best project?

My scores for Stone Blocks I by V4LOVER:

Programming Skill
-----------------
7/10

Comments: Very good programming! I like how the level stamps instead of using a massive amount of sprites. I also like how the sensing for falling off the stage is not just, "If not touching 'Block'".

Originality
-----------
8/10

Comments: Very original! I don't think I've seen a game with Goo and stone blocks before on Scratch. It just needs a plot, that's all. Good work!

Graphics
--------
10/10

Comments: Great sprites! I love them! Best graphics I've seen on Scratch!

Addictiveness
-------------
4/10

Comments: Since the game only has one level so far I can't really say it's addictive until there's more levels to play. It ends so fast!

Creativity
----------
6/10

Comments: I really like how you put the game together, but it needs some more effort in the creativity. Other than just goo traveling over blocks, it should be something like this, "Goo was created in a laboratory. One day, the scientists accidentally created an evil black sludge. The sludge took over the laboratory and Goo was forced to escape. Unfortunely, the sludge pursued him through a dangerous world..." Keep up the good work!

Judge's Overall Score:
----------------------
----------------------
35 or 70%

I can't wait to see more levels! 4 more judges to go!

I think you failed to notice that the project uses only 1 script and 1 sprite. Also, for the originality part, I can see why you didn't like the graphics, but the idea had never been attempted before Square 1. It was inspired by Shift, but it's still very different from Shift.
