Scratch Team Doing Poor Job

The scratch team said they will suspend my account if i use flagging to attack others. The game had blood and killing in it. Scratch needs to do a better job.

What are you trying to say. Did they say that before or after you flagged it? They don't have time to manually check every project that gets uploaded

Blood is considered bad to see, and killing is not good. Most games with blood in them are rated E10+ or T, for a main reason: blood.

Who Cares. Half the games on scratch have killing. Most users are teenagers. Almost all movies and some TV shows have blood and killing yet you don't see people going around filing law suets against the directors and actors in those shows and movies. Have some common sense. If a program has cursing, if you find it insulting, or if it has realistic blood and gore (no game on scratch does) you can flag it. Other than that you should just leave it alone.

Re: Scratch Team Doing Poor Job

I understand, though perhaps you're marking it inaproppriate, and making rude comments?

Yes, some games do have blood in, and violence, but maybe there was a notice for younger children to take notice.

Apart from that, I don't think they're doing bad, but I do agree with you that you're flagging it because this site is safe - for young children.

I still don't understand why they're going to suspend your account. You must've done something apart from flag it, because that's what the button is for.

Re: Scratch Team Doing Poor Job

Interesting discussion.  There are many movies, TV, shows and video games that feature violence.  Historically there has been heated disagreement about whether radio talk shows or books or any kind of broadcasts or games should feature violence.  Many fear that watching/reading about violence could cause someone to act more violently.  Research has been done (specifically with TV violence), and the results didn't prove this to be true.  If violent imagery causes violent behavior the effects are very small/mild and hard to detect.  In a few cases, people seem more likely to act out aggressively immediately afterwards.  But I don't know of anyone finding consistent short term or any long term effects.  Some argue that people can tell the difference between violence in real life versus that found in stories.

What do you all think?

Scratch is for all ages and cultures, so we should have some ideas about what is acceptable to everyone.  One good question is whether or not it is better to have a warning screen or project notes that warn people that a project is violence so they can choose not to play it?  Do you think that would be enough of a precaution?

I do not know why TMS5 received such a message, but can explain why messages like this might be sent.  The Scratch Team does look at every flagged project and considers the reason provided as to WHY the project was flagged.  In some cases the reason given does not seem to be true, or sometimes a user flags many of another person's projects regardless of whether or not their projects seem disrespectful.  Since it would be unfair to remove a project that has nothing wrong with it, a message might be sent out asking that someone becareful when they flag and really put thought into why they think something is inappropriate.

This is from the guy who's best game is one whose main objective is to light Family Guy characters on fire. With a shotgun.
Seriously.
And I despise people who favorite their own projects.
I can't stop laughing, I expected your projects to be related to gardening or flowers. But noo....

Re: Scratch Team Doing Poor Job

I might have been the one who sent you that warning. I probably had enough reasons to believe that you were flagging projects as way to attack a specific users and not really because you believed the particular project was inappropriate.

If you do not think this is the case please do not hesitate to contact the Scratch Team and continue flagging projects that you consider are inappropriate.  Use your own judgement  to decide if you flag something as inappripriate, it typically helps a lot if you clearly explain why you think something is inappropriate.  Different people have different opinions about different types of content but we're interested in knowing what each one of you think.
