I want some help (new member)

Hi to everyone I new here and I started scratch it is a subject fo my school. I know some programming languages so it was easy for me. But I would like to know:

1) Is there any good video tutorial (for advanced things in scratch)?
2) How can I increase the width of a room?
3) How to create or destroy a sprite when I m playing my game?
4) When I reaches the edge of the room how can I pass to another room (create two rooms in one project)?

Re: I want some help (new member)

1) I don't know of any.
2) You can't edit the size of the stage in Scratch.  You can't ONLY change the width of a sprite or ONLY change the height of a sprite, but you can change them both if you change them by the same amount.
3) You can't clone/delete sprites in Scratch, but you can use the show and hide blocks to make a sprite visible or not visible.  This may be included in 2.0.
4) You just make a new background for the stage and tell the stage to "switch to background (whatever your new one is called)".  You can do this in the "Backgrounds" tab.

Hope this helps!

If you want something with the features you want, use Game Maker.

This is totally the wrong attitude!  I too know how to program in other languages, but I stick with Scratch.  Just because you might be able to do more with other languages doesn't mean you should give up!  You DON'T NEED to do most of the things you want to do to make awesome stuff.  A bigger stage isn't really that important, and you can fake the rest of the stuff.

I think Panther has all of the functionality you're looking for, except perhaps a variable stage size.  I stick with Scratch because it has a bigger community, easier upload/download functionality, and because Panther is a bit glitchy.

Re: I want some help (new member)

Actually, you could say scratch sucks.
-It's VERY SLOW, even compared to flash (which apparently is slow)
-You cannot duplicate/delete sprites during the program
-Everything is creative commons
-Repeat blocks lag
-Huge file size (1 forever block/ when flag clicked is 4kb)
-No support for semi-transparency (ghost effect does not count, affects the whole image)
-Screen is always 480x360
-Sprites larger than screen will be resized (and messed up as a result)
-No multi-dimensional lists
-Somewhat immature community (quitting projects, "hacking" etc.) at times
-The fact that your work will probably never be well known no matter how hard you work
-Cannot make money with scratch (well as far as I know, apart from with teaching)
-Blood/gore/language restrictions
-The entire idea of scratch being for everyone actually limits what you can post

EDIT: oh, and
-Anyone can take your code without you knowing
-At (most) times, all "important" people can seem biased towards simple 5 minute projects

Some GOOD things about scratch are:
-Nice community (sometimes)
-Simple
-Easy
-Free
-Helpful members often outnumber the more annoying ones
-You can make something very quickly (which most likely will suck. a lot.)

Well, you can at least look at the even Brighter side of Scratch, a simple, fun program for younger children as well as the generations beyond.  smile  And, Scratch IS a nicer community compared to some other sites.  big_smile

I know it's friendlier and simpler, but that's pretty much it. So saying it sucks isn't completely false.
