Terrible glitch, variables keep breaking, any fix?

Now on my project, I copied a script to extend a script and the variables died, literally. All of one variable stopped working and showed no value, I am unable to change the value either. Is there any fix or thing that I am doing that may be causing this?

Ohnoes! It's a new glitch: The broken variable glitch!!!
That shouldn't be happening, did you try closing Scratch and starting it up again?

Yep, same problem, it keeps happening. It's really starting to bug me now. grrrr

Setting the variables to 000 seemed to be a quick fix, but definitely not a permanent fix...
