Okay, I just baught an iPod second generation off of the Apple store for $150, and I need some help with some stuff on it.
1. Okay, you know those apps that you text free with? Do you need to be connected to Wi-Fi or a telephone line?
2.What are the risks of Jailbreaking?
3. Does activating it cost money?

Ok, I guess you mean a iPod Touch 2G. I didn't even know they still made that model, because the 4G is out.
1. You need to be connected to Wi-Fi.
2. There is a very small chance that your iPod will be bricked (unusable), but 99.5% of the time, the jailbreak will be successful. The biggest risk is that it voids the warranty.
3. You don't have to activate an iPod. Activating is for iPhones.
I hope that helped.

My favorite testing app is Textfree with Voice. it's free, let's you send unlimited texts and picture messages, AND it let's you call (if you have a microphone) but it works great even without ever using the call feature.
