He's the president, and he's trying to do all he can to keep the army on his side, he doesn't care about the people.
Because if the army goes anti-Mubarak, he's done. That's why he seems to be doing little to stop the protests, he doesn't care all that much.

It's really a mess down there now. The pro-Mubarak and anti-Mubarak are pretty much fighting each other, throwing sticks and stones and setting off Molotov cocktails, which are pretty much basic bombs. I wonder if international militaries are going to have to go in there...
