Morta Kombat character Kabal was inspired by the Tusken Raiders from Star Wars. In fact, Kabal's beta name was "Sandman".

On the topic of MK characters, here's a funny one:
The character Rain is a reference to the Prince album Purple Rain. His costume is purple, and his name it Rain. And, in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, he is called a "prince" of Edenia, completing the homage circle.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, all of the partners from he original Paper Mario were gonna make cameos, but never made it. Only Parakary and Boo made the cut as cameos.
