Space Shuttle Challenger 25th Anniversary
On this day, January 28th 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger lifted off for the stars. On board was a crew of 7, one of them would be the first teacher in space.
71 Seconds after lift off, the shuttle suddenly exploded. Everyone on board perished. This remains the worst tragedy in US space exploration history.

Also an up coming annaversary:
8 years ago, on February 1st 2003, the Space Shuttle Columbia was re entering the earths atmosphere, when it suddenly broke up and came down over Texas as several balls of fire. Again, all 7 people on board died. This incident is on par with Challenger as the worst space exploration disaster.

Hmm, I was just thinking about the Challenger disaster earlier today and I had no idea it was the anniversary. What a coincedence.

Well I think that's more important than what my History Channel daily calendar has; it says yesterday was when Elvis made his first TV appearance. 
But still, the Challenger tragedy was awful. R.I.P. to those who died in it.
