Why would you want to be popular?
The actual "popular" people became that way after a lot of hard work. And, they are only popular for a few days. Sure they get, like, a hundred messages a day, but at least seventy five of them are probably spam, and fifteen are probably hose worthless: "cool" or "lol" comments. Another ten of them are hate messages, and that only leaves about five messages that are real and good. I'd rather stick to my "0-1" messages a day thing, then deal with all of that.
One time I got featured, then I got 20-50 messages a day, and soon after, I got top viewed, then top loved, and I thought it was cool because I was famous. After a while, it got boring, and there wasn't really anything good about it. The comments weren't always nice, and most of them were meaningless.
Well, I could go on and on about how sick I am of people whining on Scratch because their not famous, but I would prefer not to.

how to get featured???

Hmmm, I see these problems often. Try this:
1.) Have alot of friends!
2.) Comment on others so they will comment on you. Note: You must have thoughtful comments instead of "Cool" blah.
3.) Add your projects to gallery.
4.) Advertise in Show and Tell forums, with bumps if needed to bump up your post.
5.) Don't SPAM! Spamming works against you if done.
There, five lessons in one small post! Hope this helps.

when someone recommends your project on the featured thread, the scratch team might choose it to be on the front page.
