Re: The master list of over-requested requests

If you don't want people to make new threads, at least post links to the topics with the suggestions. That people post whenever they want something new even if it allready has been requested has a purpose, it shows the Scratch team how many are interested in every new suggestion.

Re: The master list of over-requested requests

Couple of things I would like to see in the forum are 'remembering you' ie. when you go to the scratch website youa re already logged in and also, a private messaging system similar to that found in standard phbb forums where you can send message to other members.

In response to the messaging system...one they're most likely not going to do.

Re: The master list of over-requested requests

Oh, sorry I hadn't seen that topic. Eyra, you should add a list of requested thing slike private messaging that the Scratch team have said they won't do so people don't keep asking.

Re: The master list of over-requested requests

The scratch team told me not to make a list of things they won't do, so I'm just putting that stuff into the rest of the list.

I think it is OK if there is a category of features that are not going to be implemented.

One of them is a private notification system.

You can list those things, but just don't make it seem as if we are closed to the idea, it's just that as of right now, there has not been enough positive arguments in favor of those features.

Re: The master list of over-requested requests

Actually, what if there was a forum added called like General Chat or whatever, and in that forum, you were able to add a To: box, which would then send a notification message to the user to come look at that forum because a post was made for them to see.  That way the forum is completely open to the public still, but a user can let another user know about the post.  I know it's pushing the envelope, and I totally understand the reasoning behind the private messages, this is just a quick alternative I thought of in about 10 seconds.

Re: The master list of over-requested requests

I like soccrplayer4life13's idea, because sometimes (like if you're collaborating with someone or helping them through their Scratch project) email or IM isn't the best--its often good to have a project in front of you.  With soccrplayer4life's idea, there's no worry about what younger users are exposed to anymore than with a normal forum because it's all public, but at the same time, it allows you to quickly get in touch with other users.  --I hope that adds a positive argument for this one.  If not, I can understand why.  Although I've just thought of something else: when you create an account on Scratch there could be a way to select your age--then, say, if the user is above a certain age they get an account that allows them to give and recieve private messages and view projects deemed to be inappropriate for younger users, and if they are below that age they get an account like the one's currently in use.  cool

Re: The master list of over-requested requests

Why not just allow comments on user pages? You get a notification every time someone leaves a message...

Re: The master list of over-requested requests

Eyra, maybe you could edit the post so that it says "Please DON'T start a new thread on these topics. If you want to support a suggestion in this list, please add a post to the existing thread instead."?

Re: The master list of over-requested requests

I think that the Scratch team is doing a good job and should should make a new version of  Scratch and add some new blocks to it.
