I have downloaded the newest version of Scratch and am having trouble saving my projects after creating a new sprite (any one).
The error pops up "unknown pixel depth: 14".
I have hardly found any web pages with this error message.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would be very grateful.
Thanks

Hi binaryteacher - I'm sorry to hear you are having difficulties. I've never run into the error you are reporting. I have a couple of questions for you that might help the Scratch Team, or others, solve your problem.
1. What operating sytem are you running on your computer?
2. What version of Scratch are you running? It should say in the upper-left corner of the Scratch window.
3. Have you ever been able to save a project on Scratch? In other words - did it used to work and now it is broken or has it been broken all along?
4. When you say "after creating a sprite" - does that mean in the Paint Editor?
If you haven't already, you should try reinstalling Scratch - possibly the installation got corrupted.

Windows XP SP3 (pretty much up to date with all patches)
2. What version of Scratch are you running? It should say in the upper-left corner of the Scratch window.
Scratch 1.2.1 (6-Dec-07)

When I launch scratch with the default cat sprite, I can save the project just fine.
I can add scripts and run them fine. When I create another Sprite (like the Bananas)
from the libraries, I go to save and I get a message box with the error:
Unknown Pixel Depth: 14.
Then everytime I save (even if I delete the Bananas Sprite) a larger reddish pink window shows up with the following:
|Proceed| |Abandon| |Debug|
Color class(Object)>>error:
Color class>>colorFormPixelValue:depth:
Form>>colorReduced
ScratchStageMorph>>stageShotSized:
etc.
4. When you say "after creating a sprite" - does that mean in the Paint Editor?
Either creating a new sprite in the Paint Editor or creating one from a gif in the libraries.
If you haven't already, you should try reinstalling Scratch - possibly the installation got corrupted.
I have installed several times....
Thank you so much for your time and consideration in this manner.
I am able to use Scratch fine at the School I teach at.
My students are enjoying it quite a bit.
Sincerely,
Dave Ruth

Here's a thought...maybe you have the screen settings on your monitor set too low. There is a color setting that you can control (usually right-clicking on your desktop in an empty area will bring up a way to get at the screen settings). If you had your screen set to 8 bit color, for instance, it might confuse Scratch. It's worth taking a look at anyway.
