"Could not read project; file may be damaged: (key not found)" error

I've been working on a project for school for the past few days and I tried to load the file but it gives me this error. I'm not sure if there's anyway to fix it but I've been working hard on this for a while.

I think there's another topic about this.
Anyway, I think that means that the file's corrupt. Did you change the name of the file? That could be the cause.

No, I had it on a memory stick though, it might have been removed incorrectly or something. When I see the file thumbnail in Scratch, it shows the correct screenshot, but it doesn't load. Anyway, if it is corrupted, is there any way to fix it?

Did you take out your USB stick out too quickly when ejecting? Files can become erased and etc. That happened to me once for a Garageband project...

This can also be caused by closing a project before it's finished saving (you'll know it's done when the outline of a box moves across the screen). As far as I know from my own past experience, there's not a way to fix a corrupted project though.. Do you have another/older version of the project saved if it was on a memory stick?

No, but I have started making it over again, but since I remember my past mistakes with it, it's been going by much faster.

You should make at least 2 copies of the project. That way, if it ever gets corrupt again, you still have the other(s).
