Queensland floods.

Queensland Australia is beening affected by floods. With more than 3 quarters of Queensland being affected.

http://www.scratch.mit.edu/ext/youtube/?v=c-BEMTwh4hI

The water is still rising and Brisbane (A city) is about to be hit. A dam which was almost empty is now at 175% capacity and is spewing water down the river flooding homes as it is unable to hold any more water.

Power to 100,000 homes will be turned off tomorrow because of the floods.
Brisband's city center is being evacuated.

Estimated cost is in the billions of dollers.

Some people have in the flash floods (See video of how bad it is). 90 people are still missing.

Dam is now at 190% capacity.
Brisbands river will peak around 3pm EST.

Brisbane Airport will remain open for now.
Look how close it is to the river

More breaking news.

South of Perth in Western Australia has experienced a big bush fire that was deliberately lit. Causing millions of dollers in damages. The fire was started in over 7 places near bunbury. Police are looking for a "green car" seen around the time the fires started.

Donations at the moment are $32 Million a long way off the billions needed.

Re: Queensland floods.

I read that on the Wii News Channel. It's supposed to be the costliest disaster in Australian history; it'll take $5 billion to clean up that mess.

Re: Queensland floods.

They were lucky the dam could hold so much water. High tide tomorrow, hopefully the water would have gone down enough by then or the peak will be even higher.

More information.

A category 1 cyclone (TC Vince) is North West of WA. Could cause flooding and sever damage. A previous low near WA alreadly has.

Tropical low off North East of Queensland could bring even more rain and flooding. Might cause the dam to over flow.

Fires south of Perth WA are under control and almost out.

Massive clean up is under way in Queensland. Queenslanders hoping that the tropical low doesn't bring too much rain.

Strong wind warnings for people near the tropical low and cyclone.

Re: Queensland floods.

Did you hear about the story of the little 10-year-old boy who was terrified of water gave up his oppurtunity to be saved by a lifeguard so his brother could be rescued? I won't put a link because of child safety so I copied an pasted the story.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's common for one personality to emerge as the face of tragedy, and Australia's deadly floodwaters have now claimed just such a hero to embody all that is good in the human character.

At least 25 people have died since relentless rains started pounding the eastern state of Queensland in November, but the death of 13-year-old Jordan Rice has captivated the nation.

On Monday, rapidly rising water engulfed a car carrying Rice, his mother and his brother in the hard-hit town of Toowoomba. The torrent knocked over the first person who attempted to reach the stranded family.

A second man managed to reach the car, but when he tried to pull Jordan out, the teenager insisted his 10-year-old brother Blake be saved first. Jordan couldn't swim.

Before the rescuer, Warren McErlean, could return to the car, a rope he was clinging to snapped. The car flipped over and Jordan and his mother Donna were carried away by the floodwater. They both died.

"Jordan was swept off," John Tyson, Donna Rice's long-time partner and Jordan's dad, told The Telegraph.

"As soon as he went, Donna just let go, you know, trying to clutch at Jordan. The poor little boy, they just both drowned."

"He (the rescuer) went to grab Jordan first, who said, 'Save my brother'. I can only imagine the fear coursing through his body."

"Courage kicked in, and he would rather his little brother would live," Jordan's older brother Kyle, 16, told The Australian newspaper.

The incident left McErlean distraught. He told Australian television in an emotional interview that he was deeply saddened by his inability to save all the boys.

"I just kept telling the boy (Jordan) that it was going to be alright, but it wasn't. I just feel terrible for himself and his family. I just couldn't get him out."

On Twitter, a wave of tweets have dubbed Jordan the "true hero" of the Queensland floods.
