For Scratchers using other than Mac, it could be a virus that isn't allowing you to upload data. Some strong viruses don't allow uploads because you could be attempting to send error data to Microsoft or the likes.
For Windows users, the only thing I can recommend is to use the Malicious Software Removal Tool. You can also try this conficker virus 'eye chart' to see if you are infected with the virus. Use this because some viruses can also stop access to anti-virus and security websites.
To Scratchers still having a problem, can you upload anything else to the internet (other than Scratch)? For Windows users, can you download and install using Windows Update? Does security centre show that your using the recommended settings?

1. Operating system: Windows xp
2. Version of Scratch: 1.4
3. Anti-virus software: AGV
4. Details: I tried uploading at different times of day from the same computer. My project has 24 sprites and is about 8 MB. When I upload it quickly send the data then spends 10-15 minutes saying "waiting for response" before giving the "Can't Upload for unknown reason". Can easily upload smaller projects

Uncheck the compress music and pictures.
But this problem is when the error message is Error, unknown reason.
Oh also I have the same issue, Happened today.
But I was abe to upload my projects through the mac that I have.
1. Windows XP Media edition (I think?)
2. scratch 1.4
3. Avast antivirus, and Comodo firewall
4. Was able to upload normally until today. The only difference is that it's probably the biggest project I uploaded. 7 mb (compressible to 2 mb) neither uploaded. It went to the end. But at the waiting for reply, after 1 min. I got the message Error, failed to upload, unknown reason.

I looked for a solution through the forum, this is the most developed page. I also don't care if this is an old topic, it's still unsolved!

To fix it, uncheck the small box that asks if you want to compress your sounds and images.

This little problem is seriously giving me anger issues at the moment. I have the final version of my teams collab challenge project with major updates, but I am unable to upload it due to this coniving little error. I have so far tried 3 different computers, and redownloaded scratch...nothing. Not even once have I been able to get it up, and it's frustrating. Every time I get a project really complex, it turns bad, and I can't get it uploaded.
The bad thing is that the final project needs to be on my account, so even if I could wlak my partners through the final scripts, I would have to give them my account info for them to upload it, somthing that I am uncomfortable with without a live chat going on or somthing.
I have had this problem before, as Lightnin can attest. I just hope 2.0 fixes it...

This bug is really frustrating, I have like 5 different finished projects done right now ready to upload, but each one takes about two hours of typing in titles and tags and passwords and unticking the compress box and then trying again over and over to get up because of this bug.
A load of people think I have quit.

The problem is extremely annoying, and it has been here for a long long time (it was here when I joined in 2009, but it was found a while before that)... it seems that problem comes out randomly and the Scratch Team hasn't really found a way to fix the bug. I hope they will though...

The same thing happened to me!
I made this really cool game and tried to upload it. Now it's lost because my old computer broke.
But I could upload all other projects EXCEPT for that one.

I have Windows Vista Basic, Scratch 1.4, AVG Antivirus. The problem only occurs occasionally (location: US), but when it happens, it's confusing, annoying, and it ruins almost everything. But here is a tip:
It seems to me that the problem occurs on larger files (such as 5mb or higher), so a solution is to upload the project onto Skydrive or Megaupload (both free), and if you don't have an account or Hotmail email, you can register for one. To upload onto Megaupload, you can use this guide. To upload to Skydrive, click on "Public," click on "Add Files," and click on "select documents from your computer." Then select the project and wait (the process takes a while). When done, click "Continue," then you will see an icon with the project name next to it. Click on that one.
Then, after the upload process, make a new Scratch project. Don't do anything, then upload it and name it the title of the project that can't upload to the Scratch website. Then, in the project notes, write "Megaupload/Skydrive Link: [copy paste the download link]." Since this project is just a picture of the Scratch cat, it will upload because it is slightly smaller.
Hope this helps!
