me and a few of my friends have minecraft, so I came up with the idea of buying a cheap minecraft server that we would split the monthly cost of, I haven't bought it yet and when I do I'm not giving out the IP address since it's just for my friends in real life and possibly very good friends on the web
either way I just wanted to get this out here because this is a very affordable place to get server hosting! here are some stats
to site
$1.65 per player slot
4-32 players slots allowed
optional hey0 mod pre-installed
7-day refund
if this seems pricey to you, you can compare this to other places where servers sell for as low as $150 a month!

not really, when people sell servers they are top of line computers designed for only hosting games and have some very special internet setup that I don't think is even possible to get on a PC, and these servers aren't cheap, so selling them for usage is completely logical since a single good server unit usually costs more than $10000

Servers aren't cheap to build or maintain you know.
I could say all food should be free too, but sadly it isn't possible because people have to work to obtain it.

Well, what I'm renting a Debian Linux server from prgmr.com/xen. then I just set up everything I need for it.
Althogh, you do need to know how to use bash
Google it.

what's wrong with hosting a server on your own computer, i used to host a minecraft server, you just need to download the software then open a few ports.

Security issues. If someone knows how to enter your computer through one of the minecraft ports than you can lose everything.

also I can just about guarantee these servers are more powerful than your computer, unless you've spent about $5000 on it
