Also, alot of your spelling corrections were changing "Colour" to "Color". As I live in England, Colour with a U in it is the correct spelling. I will use it without a U if typing bbcode or referring to a color block or the color tag in bbcode as both have the american spelling used.

Well see this is where an even more efficient method of this image generator might work - in greyscale, of course. If you think about it, the background is white and the text is black. so # creates a "darker", more shaded pixel than, say, -

So then a character could represent a certain shade and convert it that way. no colour tags means less characters.

problems: It might not be as easy to see the image and characters have different widths, so lining it all up would be much harder.

Not quite the same color, but you get the idea. Now if you Quote the above post, you will see that it is made up of loads and loads of █'s (1560 to be exact) which is a character you can get by typing alt+178 on your keyboard, each one with a different color tag. It looks very confusing, takes up a lot of space, and would take a long, long time to do by hand. Luckily I have written a very simple program that writes those 1560 characters and their individual coloring in about three seconds!

Making this work and posting your own images!

Now the program I wrote is written in Panther, a version of Scratch that has color sensing and representing abilities. You need Panther to continue, so feel free to download it here.

Once you've opened Panther, the first thing you need to do is to create a small white square on the stage 40 pixels by 40 pixels. It's probably going to make things easier for you later if he top-left corner of the square you're drawing is at the center of the stage. (you can color the rest of the stage any way you like, it does not matter, just be sure that you can see your white square clearly. Once the program is finished, anything you draw on that white square, will be converted into a color code that the Scratch fora understand.

right-click this image and choose "view image" to see it fullsize

(this script assumes your square is indeed 40X40 and the top left corner is at the center of the sprite. Check that the numbers are all right on the script to match your setup!)

The first section is complete! Edit your square and draw your picture or import a picture over it and click the green flag. The project will now create a file on your computer called "temp1.txt" that holds the code you need to post on the forum. It will be made wherever the Panther folder is (inside it) and everytime you run this script the old bbcode will be erased and the new one will be pasted into that file.

Open the file up (I use word in this case because notepad cannot recognize all the symbols I use) and highlight all the code. Paste it into the fora and submit! You're done!

Editing the script to make changes

height and width
To change how wide or how tall your image is, you can change the numbers in the repeat block. The first repeat block shows the height, the second the width. I chose 40X40 because that's about as big as you can get it before you run out of text space in your post.

pixel size
To make the overall image smaller on the fora, choose a smaller character like a period (.). This will make the image smaller. (you can use spaces or more than one character to minimize stretching)

Notes & tips:

Panther (and Scratch) don't like many of the unusual characters that you can use, but you can paste a lot of them in!

notepad, while brilliant, does not like many characters (including the ▓'s) so I use word (which will convert the .txt file for you) to get the symbol to come out. Don't try and run the script while the file is open in Word, as Word does not like it. Close it, run the script then reopen it!

Turn on turbo speed (Edit>>set single stepping...>>Turbo speed) to make the script complete the process much faster!

things to think about:
Making the conversion more efficient could allow you to share larger images or ones of higher resolution!

Making the images greyscale may allow you to reduce the code required and therefore allow larger images?

Pecola, the file name you type into the "clear file" and "write $String$ to file $String$" blocks specifies the path to the file you are making. you can replace the file in the example with a file path to, say, your documents. If there is no file path given, (so just file.txt) the file will appear in the same folder as the Panther1.0.image file. If you find where you saved your panther folder, you should find it there.

The clear file block creates a file if it's not made yet. So you can create a new file using that script by typing that file path in!

I made a new version of that using the (if < > then [ ] else [ ]) block and if the color of x y pos is whit it inputs transparent instead of color x y pix as string.
