When forum banning, specify the post if possible.

I was recently temporarily banned from the TBG forums, and I'm very confused. I know that my tone was questionable at best, but I don't remember outright insulting anybody.
I am sure many people share this situation with me. So I think that when somebody is banned, they should know what specific post got them banned.

It would be an interesting feature, but contacting the Scratch Team may also resolve your question over why you were banned.

Some people don't have emails. And being banned may seem confusing to some with just one line of text, we should see what it was that got us banned.

Good point - but I'd think it pretty easy to work out what post(s) got you banned.  hmm

The ban list says that you were banned for insulting and that you'll be free on the 3rd of January...  hmm

This thread is a general suggestion, not about my case. Please stop discussing my case and discuss my suggestion.

On the main forums, a private message is usually sent to users before blocks are put in place about matters on the forums that are causing trouble - sometimes it usually includes the comment or issues in question, and if it isn't still clear, the user can talk with the Scratch Team directly to ask about it. I'm going to guess that this may not have happened here.

@Chrischb: Sometimes things on the internet do not come off as intended, so would suffice if you could give the comment that resulted in the banning - preferably, ask the Scratch Team to send a private message that resulted in the ban, if possible - so this would allow the issue to be resolved.

@SlowDrip: I know some people don't have e-mails, but, in reality, that makes it all more difficult to contact the Scratch Team in certain situations such as this one. When signing up, you're required to give an e-mail (typically yours, or you parent/guardian's e-mail, depending on age). If you signed up with a parent's e-mail, you can use that to contact the Scratch Team here.

Re: When forum banning, specify the post if possible.

I signed up with a fake email, something like illneverforgetmypassword@soidontneedanemail.com or something. It's true, my password is easy, and I use it for everything, so despite my age, I still don't have an email.
I think that when banning, the scratch team should make it a priority to be clear about what is going on. I have no idea what specific post I was banned for, and I can't fix my tone, this is just how I talk, so I have no idea what to correct. Banning tells the banned user to correct something, right? In my opinion, unless you have a rabid spammer on your hands, banning is useless unless the user knows what exactly to correct.

I still think you should have a registered e-mail associated with your account anyway. While yes, the e-mail is used for password recovery, it is also used for many things, like clearing up issues like this.

You're right, banning is useless unless the user knows exactly what to correct, but, here on the main forums, correction is usually encouraged via private warnings first (private warnings about inappropriate behavior is usually sent instead of blocking right away, with exceptions to extreme situations), so, in the case that the inappropriate behavior happens again and an account is blocked, one usually knows why a block was put into place.

However, the TBG forums, though, are pretty much its own entity in terms of forum life, so I have no idea what's going on there (I don't even have moderator status there, and I don't really like to get involved with the TBG forums anyway); it is why I find your case just rather unusual since, to my understanding of what's going on, no private message about correction of behavior was made initially, and, like you, I have a hard time figuring out which comment on the TBG is the one that triggered the block on your account.  hmm

I'll see if I can get the Scratch Team to come here, maybe something can be cleared up. Just in case: one should be careful about the tone here when posting comment on the Scratch website in general since we do have such a diverse range of ages, cultures, and other backgrounds here on the Scratch website. (You may want to read more about the website's Terms of Use here if you haven't done so already.) ^^

As a TBG moderator, Chrischb has access to the TBG forums list of banned users (and the messages they see when they try to log on).

I see, I thought it might be something to do with that- thanks!
