Desktop. To be honest, I generally leave my laptop in the same place, so portability isn't really a benefit for me. With a desktop, you not only get better components for the same price, but you can upgrade down the line. Plus, desktops tend to have better cooling systems.
Laptops are comfier. Can you sit on a couch and play on a desktop?!?!?! 0.e XD

I never, ever move my laptop, except when I have to get it out of the way. Besides, despite their name, you can't actually put a laptop on your lap. They get very hot.

Desktops as they are more powerful than their laptop counterparts.
Desktop + liquid cooled = Max power & Low heat
Laptop + Fan = Ok power & Reduced performance to keep laptop cool.
For the average person a laptop is fine but for those who want to use all their proccessing power need a desktop.

Actually, yes I can. I just put the monitor on a coffee table 2 feet from me. XP

Laptop for portability, Desktop for power.
A 500 dollar desktop is twice as powerful as a 500 dollar laptop. Saying that one has more features than the other just means the operating systems are different.
archmage is right. But, with a desktop, you have to buy a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and have to sacrifice portability. Laptops, on tthe other hand, are ready to use, out of da box. And, Laptops usually incorporate hardware that not computers have. However, I completely agree w/ archmage on the OS subject. The OS'es are different, so 1 computer may have more features

I have a netbook. They are as powerful as a Laptop, so... Laptop, if anything, since I can go anywhere with it (though my netbook is much more compact, and, for nerdy girls, 'cute' XD)
