Re: What does 'Karma' in Scratch Suggestions mean?

Okay guys, let's not turn this into a topic to tell everyone how much karma you have.

According to this page, Karma is calculated as follows:

Karma scores are calculated by a combination of the user’s activity and the status of ideas they support. For example, when a user creates, votes or comments on an idea, their karma is increased. They also receive additional karma points when ideas they support are planned, started or completed (and if the user is the one who created the idea, they’ll receive even more points).

Wow! But considering that you can't see other users' pages terribly easily, it does defeat the purpose.

Re: What does 'Karma' in Scratch Suggestions mean?

Thanks for clearing that up, Coolstuff. I still wonder what exactly the point is though...  hmm

P.S. I have 43 karma.

The idea, according to the forementioned page, is:

The idea behind this is to provide a simple way to identify proactive users on a feedback site, as well as for users to see how well they rank among other users of the site. It also helps promote constructive feedback, as ideas that are used result in higher karma scores.

Because the Scratch Team didn't make the system themselves and are merely using a service others created, they don't really have control over that; I'm sure that if they did, karma would be out of the door.

Oh, I see. Interesting, I suppose. I don't see any real reason to get rid of it, but it doesn't really add to the suggestions site either.

Well, it really doesn't help in our situation given that there's no easy way (aside from URLing) to get to other users' profiles. So you can just make yourself happy that you have X karma without knowing that of others.  tongue

I'm not even allowed to make suggestions since I'm a new scratcher even though I was registered for like a year

Re: What does 'Karma' in Scratch Suggestions mean?

Huh? How do you know how many more hours it takes for a person to become a Scratcher instead of a New Scratcher?

Math Trick of the Week: Choose any three digit number that's one digit is at least 2 less that the tens digit and the tens digit at least 2 less than the hundreds. Then, reverse the digits and subtract. Then, reverse the digits in the answer and add. You should get 1089.

HD's saying since he's a Scratcher now compared to when he made the post (7 and a half hours ago), he must have changed somewhere between now and 7 and a half hours ago.
