I bet that it's the Scratch 2.0 gamma. Have you heard the mods saying that Scratch 2.0 is going well? I think that's why.

yeah it's definitely something to do with 2.0. probably it's the site prepared for scratch 2.0, don't think they've finished the flash bit yet.

Oops! I didn't notice that.
Google it.

Yeah, I agree. It must be only for the Scratch Team. I think that people could go to it before they started Scratch 2.0. I remember looking at it. It was just the Scratch website with a few minor changes.

NECROPOST
And why is there gamma.dev.scratch.mit.edu and gamma.scratch.mit.edu?
And why is one password protected and the other not?

It's not a Necropost as such, I was just continuing on the discussion, considering that the duplicate of this was closed...
Btw, there's also http://www.dev.scratch.mit.edu/

Makes me think "What's the point?"...

Gamma is just the Beta world of the Scratch Website
If you scroll down on the dev/gamma.dev sites, it shows the how many MySQL queries it did and shows a few other details.

We all know why they need testing sites. TO TEST!!!

But why three? Why not just make just one overall website that links to tests of the queries? Or... Maybe we've only discovered the subsequent websites.
Or maybe I just don't understand what I'm talking about.
And if it's just backup, why give it similar names to the testing ones?

Gamma is a testing stage, so i suppose its scratch 2.0 gamma, if it is this means 2.0 is nearly complete!

It's not for 2.0, I don't think it's that close to completion. This server's been around for a while, and it's just a development server. Back in 2008 there was an announcement (that's disappeared now) telling people to use the gamma server instead. They were simple code changes, nothing special. Regardless, it's not really that important.

Unfortunately, no - at least, not that I know of. However, the announcement was for gamma.dev.blah, whereas this is just gamma.blah - so I'm curious as to whether this is for 2.0 or not?

I see.

The gamma sites will/are/might probably be used to test 2.0, but that's just a wild guess. But I do know ( I think ) that the sites are used for testing new features on the Scratch Website.
I do not know why they have multiple sites for testing, maybe testing different things at the same time? Or test the same thing on different types of set ups, like one would be used to test the Scratch, Java Player for new features in it, and building a Scratch, Flash Player both on separate websites so they can do multiple things at the same time.
I think it's funny though, that they have gamma, gamma.dev, or dev. Why didn't they just do test1, test2, test3, etc? Or why not gamma1, gamma2, gamma3, etc?
But those are just my ideas. Nothing is confirmed.

It can't be being used for testing for 2.0, because it looks exactly the same as the website does now... The point of 2.0 is that everything changes, and that includes the layout of the website. Maybe it will be used for testing 2.0 in future though...

Maybe the Scratch Team have more secret testing sites lurking out there in the dark corners of the internet, waiting to be discovered...
