It's fine to have an alternate account - as long as it isn't used to trick people. See the Terms of Use, the part that reads "Be honest. Don't pretend to be someone other than who you are or try to game the community."
I'd say that pretending to have "discovered" another account that was yours all along kind of comes under the "game the community" clause - it's kind of annoying so please don't do that anymore.
