Well that's great, hoping to see your ideas.  wink

I haven't been able to work on this since I was grounded, but none of you have recorded any riffs either  hmm  I got my bass for xmas btw, I might record some stuff on Monday and release the new version as soon as I can.  smile

I have a keyboard that you can make play 100 different instruments, 100 different classic song instrumentals, 100 different Techno beats, a metronome, a Piano mode and a DJ mode. And I can play it.

NO KIDDING.

Yeah cool, I hope you actually contribute with something though, people seem to have forgot about the collab D:

Do you have an electric or acoustic guitar? Either work so don't worry  smile  Just try to get your amp to sound decently through the mic if it's an electric - not too loud and try to not get too much air going to the mic, etc.

Re: A "Punk-o-Matic"-like game, looking for people who play instruments

Just a thought, maybe we could use this new Clutter thing to greatly reduce the lag. I haven't even tried it out yet but if we make each part of the game (the Music Creating mode, the Guitar Hero-ish mode and the Story mode) into a project and mix it into a Clutter we might not even have to worry about lag and having 100s of sprites and scripts  big_smile  So what do you guys think.

I have a bunch of Guitar Hero-like loops on GarageBand. Let me know if you want some (so far I have synths and some strings).

What do you mean by Guitar Hero-like? Guitar Hero's music doesn't have something in particular (apart from including a guitar, but you're talking about synth)  tongue

But, you can upload some of them to check them out if you want  wink

Re: A "Punk-o-Matic"-like game, looking for people who play instruments

Reviving this topic to see if people are interested. And to share some Story Mode ideas:

I think there should be two "branches" of the game. First there's the "Creative" version, which is just the song editor. Once we have an stable build of it we can start working in a "Story" version, in which you watch your band progress and stuff.

In the Story version, your band starts as a typical power trio that is unknown to the rest of the city. You get to choose a genre (Classic Rock, Indie/Alternative, Punk and Metal would be fine), and get some basic riffs for that genre. To get more riffs you can:

-Buy music CDs from the shop to get inspiration. There are CDs for each genre.
-Take a day with the band to practice, which gives you some random riffs of your main genre.
-Buy equipment, maybe have certain equipment for certain genres (such as a B.C. Rich for Metal, a Telecaster for Indie, etc.)

That way you get mainly riffs of your main genre while being able to venture into other genres optionally.  wink

To get famous around the city you mainly play concerts. Play in your school, at parties, etc. As you get famous, eventually the opportunities will start coming to you rather than you having to find them  tongue  You may get asked to play somewhere, be found by a manager or a recording label, etc. You don't have to have a manager or a contract with a label to earn money and fame, but they ease the process.

So, any more ideas?

Hmm... THere should also be 'Battle of the Bands' contests where you have a contest and win $$ and/or new instruments. And there should be a few secreat instruments you can only get by helping people/doing tasks.

EDIT: And, if you have a mic, you should be able to sing for extra $$...?

Oh great idea. Maybe if a mic is detected there could be some sort of mini-game in which you cheer up the audience before playing a song, maybe only the first one or after you get a high score on a song.

The Battle of the Bands was kinda obvious, which reminds me of another idea I had, you may befriend other bands by going to their concerts or meeting them somehow. That'd get you some new riffs and if it's the same genre as your band you may play a gig together eventually.

Re: A "Punk-o-Matic"-like game, looking for people who play instruments

I think that there should be an option to choose the genre (up to 3, so as not to fill up to much space). They could be put as boxes above the music-maker. Each time a genre is clicked, the music boxes would have different music to correspond with the genre. Genre examples from me could be rock, blues, and disco.

And if that sounds too confusing, you can always make a great idea out of it anyway. XD

I like it, maybe in the Creative version. In the Story version though you'll have to unlock them though. I'd still like to go with Classic Rock, Alternative/Indie, Punk and Metal since they're probably the most appealing genres nowadays, I mean hell, there are probably less people who like disco than people who like blues.  tongue

Someone should start working on the Story mode while I work on some riffs for Creative mode. I'm going on vacation for a week on Friday though, so I won't be able to work in it during that time.  hmm

I seem to like your genre ideas much better.  tongue  I'll try to think out some ideas for story mode... maybe a story scheme similar to LEGO Rock Band?

(P.S. Have fun on vacation!  big_smile )

Similar to LEGO RB as in fighting enemies (I think I read that somewhere), or something else? Thanks for the P.S. part too ;D

No problem! Well, kind of, at some points. Actually, it's about a band that starts off as street performers who eventually become one of the biggest names in rock music. But, so it's not a complete copy, I'll try to write my own story.

If you will still be working on this in mid-February, I might join.  If I joined, I would help with programming and instruments.  (I have a keyboard and a piano)

Like garage band, you should have scroll. There should also be a huge range of music available to put it, and they should not be limited (like in the alpha version e.g, you can only have 2 of them)

Of course, I think GarageBand lets you use some default tracks and this should be kinda like that. I'll see how varied the riffs can be. Maybe put some background sounds in the Synth category.
