Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

Hi guys! Merry Christmas!

Ssss, I'm sorry but I think we've got enough people working on this now and we're not accepting any new positions  smile

Emailing me is a cool way to do it I guess, but how can any other moderator approve a block? I had though that every mod would be able to do it... We can do that, I suppose by either having the pending block requests on a moderator-only page or by creating an email account that all mods have the password to...

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

Merry Christmas Eve! ^.^ Hehe, love your signature sparks ^.^ I could probably make some sort of Login/Register engine so everyone can have their own account, and you can login to an Admin panel to approve blocks. o.o Those are much easier to make. ^.^

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

Hey magnie! I think a login would be necessary for admins, but users shouldn't have to login unless it can be using their verified Scratch account and password because I want to let people browse and share blocks without having to register  smile

It IS christmas! The Swiss (and a lot of other countries) celebrate it on christmas eve!

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

I have a suggestion. For people like me who can't access freehostingcloud you could just make a replica of it on another site, using a shared database.

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

From what I know, we will be moving to 000webhost.

Edit: Didn't see that Sparks replied to my other post  yikes

Yes, we can leave that the way it is, I'm currently trying to remember my own database password, without any success.  tongue  So once I remember that I can continue working on the Login System.

Well, that's true, but it's still Christmas Eve for me. ^.^

We're not moving!!!!  yikes
I've already set up my SQL database on freehostingcloud and freehostingcloud allows PHP file upload which most servers don't allow. We are staying at freehostingcloud, everyone else seems to be able to use it.  smile

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

Hi! Is the logging in as admin working yet?

I think we should make it on freehostingcloud.com, but maybe have a copy of it on a different host too when it's done of possible. I can't always see the site at the mo either  smile

I'm happy to move everything, though other people are more than welcome to help me!

Do we need to back up our blocks in any way? If we lost them all they would take a LONG time to replace. There are 190 block in the library at the moment and then another 20 or so that people have posted that I have not added yet!

Also, you may notice that the Panther blocks have a download number. This lets a custom block designed to download blocks create the block corresponding to that number. The files that the block number reffers to are currently hosted on my computer, so I suppose they need to be moved to the site and the code of the block changed so that the download still works (otherwise I'll be the only one able to finish uploading a Panther block to the library and we're back to square one.

yes the admin thing is working (still needs tweaks  hmm  ).
I think I'll make a backup sort of thing. Maybe I could set a cron job to back up the sql database to a txt file  smile  - Your right it would be catastrophic if we lost all the blocks  yikes

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

Well, I was reading back about fg123 putting it on 000webhost. idk. And about the Admin Panel, I don't know if I was even planning to do that. o.O

Also, for multiple hosts, instead of doing that, use some domain like dot.tk or co.cc instead, it should then work if people are blocked from it... I'm not sure.

Also, I could do that for all of you, so long as it's just text code and I don't need to upload anything etc, etc. o.O Maybe make an option to link to it from a site?

No a 'mask' domain wouldn't work if freehostingcloud is down.
So, so know one else ask the question this is the answer...
We are not moving hosts!
Okay?  smile

How about this.

Front page:
http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/6055/frontpagef.png

This would allow for easy admin block approval, info on 1 page, news and more.

I certainly think the latest news, stats and latest blocks is a good way to fill the hompage.  smile

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

I think the idea of using php and js to make the block library on one big page is excellent! JD1's layout looks superbe and easy to use.

Maybe a few seperate page for tutorials and such, but that would work really well!

We can even use <iframe> to put the block library directly onto the homepage of the site!

Anyway, I think the recent submissions idea is great  smile

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

Well yes, that was the original plan, but to use php to have it all on one page would look awesome! It might be difficult though. We could always create several pages with all the same things in the side boxes but with a different main page bit  smile

so you want just one page?
could you make some sort of moc up of it?  hmm

I think sparks was thinking of a main page with a little bit of everything, but having separate pages as well.
