Mainly reflections, shadows, ect.

Reflections are easy
Just clone the thing you want to reflect, then flip it, then add an alpha gradient until you get the look you want

I've downloaded GIMP recently. I haven't actually made much, just drew random stuff that I don't use for anything.

It wsa quite simple: just draw the outline shape (thick brush), then fill it with green and the outside with blue then slowly blur it together. Yeah I know, that didn't help.

GIMP kinda makes lines all squiggly when I draw slow lines. >.<
