Part One:Second Earth
Bobby Pendragon and his friend Mark Diamond slowly make their way to the star marked door in the old abandoned subway station in the Bronx.
“Come on Mark! Before a train comes!” Bobby yells to his friend.
“Coming!” Mark says as he runs over and joins Bobby in the small cave like room behind the star marked door.
Normally, Bobby would be off on some distant territory trying to save it from Saint Dane. Saint Dane had been quiet lately, and Bobby had not been able to figure out what Territory he had gone to. So, Bobby had decided to take a break and hang out on his home Territory, Second Earth, with his friends Mark Diamond and Courtney Chewtenwydne. Bobby had decided, in light of his ring being stolen when he was on First Earth, that it would be a good idea to have a bag or box that he could place his journals in near the flume. That way, if he lost his ring again, he would have a back up plan.
Once inside, Bobby shuts the door and says, “At least there weren’t any quigs this time.”
“Yeah. Hey, when you were on Third Earth, did you see anything about the Inheritance cycle?”
Bobby smiles. Mark’s geek side could come out at any time, especially when it came to fantasy books. Both of the friends had read and thoroughly enjoyed the first three books of the Inheritance cycle, Eragon, Eldest, and Brisinger before Bobby‘s adventures had begun. “No, I was a little too worried about what would happen if we didn’t get back in time. The fourth one hasn’t come out then?”
Mark sighs, “No. I wish Christopher Paolini would hurry up.”
“Me too. Too bad Alagaesia isn’t a territory. Then I could just yell Alagaesia! and find out what happens. When it does come out, please let me know, ok? Mark? Hello?” Bobby waves his hand in front of Mark’s eyes. With a shaking hand Mark points behind Bobby to the flume.
“L-look. The f-flume is activating!”
Bobby turns around, expecting either a fellow Traveler, or Saint Dane. But then he feels a slight tug. “Uh-oh…” Suddenly, Bobby is pulled forward and into the flume.
“Bobby!!” Mark yells after him. The lights and music slowly fade away. As far as Mark knew, the flume only activated when a Traveler yelled the name of a Territory into it. He didn’t think it would activate by itself and take a Traveler away. Panicking, he turns and runs out the door. He bursts out of the door and runs up the stairs and out of the old subway station and to his bike. He pedals as hard as he can to get back to his house in Stoneybrook. Once he gets home, he races to his room and grabs a phone. He dials a number, Courtney’s number. She answers.
“Hey, Mark. You guys ready to hit the beach?”
“N-no. Courtney, something’s ha-happened. C-can I come o-over?”
Courtney starts at Mark’s stuttering. She knows that he only stutters when he is stressed or worried. “Yeah, both of you or just you?”
Mark pauses and then says, “I’ll explain when I get there.” He hangs up and runs to his bike.
A few minutes later, Courtney and Mark are in Courtney’s basement.
“What happened?”
“The flume activated- and Bobby was taken away. I d-don’t know how. Bobby didn’t say the name of a Territory.”
“What if Saint Dane found a way to activate the flume remotely from another Territory to bring Bobby to him?”
“I don’t know. We’re just gonna have to wait for Bobby to write,” Mark says. As he says this, his ring starts to glow and wriggle.
“That didn’t take long,” Courtney says and points to the ring. Taking the ring off, Mark gently sets it on the floor. After a final burst of light, a scroll lays next to the ring, now dormant, on the floor.
Mark picks up the ring and the scroll. He unrolls it and says, “The mail’s in.”
ALAGAESIA
Mark, Courtney, you won’t believe where I am right now. I’m in Alagaesia, the world of the Inheritance cycle books. I thought that they were just fantasy. But here I am. This brings up a whole lot of questions, the first of which is “Does this mean other fantasy worlds in books could be Territories? Are there authors who are Travelers?” My answers? I really don’t know.
Let me start by telling you what happened when I got here.
The flume ride was fairly normal, except I was freaking out. I hadn’t said the name of any Territory I knew. My biggest fear was that Saint Dane had somehow figured out how to bring me to him through the flumes. This was the first flume ride I hadn’t enjoyed since my first. Soon, the jumble of notes got louder and I was deposited in an underground cave. No surprise there, and Saint Dane wasn’t around. Someone else was though. A kid with dark hair, pointed ears, and slanted eyes was standing a few feet away, sword drawn and it was pointing at me.
Not good.
I put up my hands, hoping to show that I didn’t have any weapons. I started to say something, but the kid took a few quick steps and placed the cool blue blade on my neck.
Uh-oh.
“Don’t you dare say anything in the ancient language. You must be powerful to have transported yourself here and still be alive. Talk, but don’t use the ancient language,” the kid said. I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.
“I- uh… Who are you?” I asked hoping that he would take the very sharp sword off my neck. I tried not to move too much. That thing looked like it could hurt bad.
He chuckled, “You honestly don’t know who I am? I am Eragon Shadeslayer and Dragon Rider,” he jerked his head back. “That is my dragon, Saphira.”
I looked behind him and nearly wet my pants, partly because I was scared to death and because I was totally geeking out. Now the warning not to use the ancient language made sense. I was in Alagaesia, cornered by the only free Dragon and her Rider.
Just a little bit more than the project
What do you think? I like writing crossovers (EragonXP&F, Kingdom Keepers X Kim Possible...)
