Re: College?

I had to do this college-picking test in school the other day for this career thing. The only one that fit all of the criteria I picked on my test was UMass. I don't know about that though...

Re: College?

I'd like to go to Annapolis, but I don't think my grades would be good enough and my Dad says I just wouldn't fit in.

I'm probably gonna go through ROTC at Texas A&M, University of Texas, or Texas Tech.

lol all my art on scratch is my WORST art. I draw 100 times better in real life >.>

but anyways being an artist is too risky because its hard to sell art if your not famous and dead so animation would be okay

Re: College?

I'm not sure yet, but I already take college courses at Christian Brothers University (and I'm not Christian, no offence). I'll probably try to stay in-state and go to the University of Memphis because it's the third most affordable college in the country (last I checked), it's has good facilities, and they give you spending money if you score high enough on the ACT/SAT ;P

I'm graduating HS this April and going to college in the Fall.

Re: College?

To everyone who wants to go to MIT:

Just know that you either have to be a student with excellent grades, leadership ability/potential, and really high scores on the SAT/ACT, or have rich parents that will donate lots of money to the school. You'll really have to be a serious, consistant student starting in middle school, and especially during high school.

Also know that, contrary to popular belief, grades do not outweigh the SAT/ACT when you send in your resume. Steady, high grades make the difference  smile

Re: College?

Hmmm people here want to be programmers and animators which makes sense since that what Scratch is used for. Here is my opinion on these jobs.

I've taken some job prospect info from  http://www.bls.gov/

Animator: I think that is best to get a degree for general art rather than animation.  If you want to do animations specifically than the job prospects are not so good. Most cartoon animation jobs are being transferred to workers from other countries. However despite this there is increasing demand for people doing 3D computer animation and people who can create images for promotional items.

Programmer: Since technology is growing so quickly there will be increased demand for people with these skills. People who are Software Engineers will have very good job prospects while people who are Computer Programmers will see a decline in job prospects. Many companies hire programmers from other countries since the work is easy to transfer. Also worth mentioning is that Math is super important for getting the required degrees so if you are bad at math then you will have a hard time.

TL;DR version: Animator jobs are not doing well, specialize in something else art related. Software Engineers will be in high demand and Programmer demand will go down.

I am doing my second year of uni for Business Administration. Most of my friends are at University to become software engineers.

It's pretty much the same for animation and any profession that involves graphics, trust me. O.o Almost all professions involving art are unstable/unreliable.

As for myself, I'll probably go for either knowledge engineering or sociology of knowledge, or something similar.  smile  Currently I'm searching for suitable faculties in MSU (Moscow State University). I've always been interested in broad society-related professions. Those two, besides being pretty interesting, also seem quite potent. ^^
