Do mods know everyones password?

Hack is a misleading term. Just guessing passwords isn't hacking. Unless you mean going through some weird system just to get a password from somebody, then it's very leading.

He knows what I mean.

I'm sure mods do not know passwords and I think the admins don't either. As it is likely that all passwords are encrypted before being saved to the server (Standard practice for websites that store sensative information). Admins do of course have access to your account records and data.

That is pretty true! In fact, hacking the password system is almost virtually impossible, or so I've heard. So, whenever someone takes hold of someone else's password, 99.9% of the time they just guessed it.
And no, mods don't know anybody's password. ^^

Except their own, of course.

We have no idea! Even the Scratch team doesn't know - the passwords are encrypted in the database, so all you get is this ridiculous series of numbers and letters that, well, doesn't make any sense. And so even if somebody did get into the database, they couldn't tell what your password was.
Regardless, this belongs in All About Scratch. I'll move it for you.

I thought the mods and scratch team knew all of the passwords!

Could you try and find my encrypted password? I can see if I can decode it![]()
Good luck. The passwords are probably encoded with a hash such as MD5, which is basically a one-way encryption. So your password isn't actually in the database, but the irreversible MD5 version of it is. When you log in, it does something like this:
if($user_md5_password == md5($submitted_password)){ //log in }

Nope, no one will ever hack you if you password is unguesable
Wrong... Nobody will ever guess your password if it's unguessable... It doesn't stop hacking... However to be honest, I can't imagine an incentive for a professional hacker to hack Scratch...

You probably should have used "Contact Us" rather than make a whole topic about it.
