My question is complicated. Does it go in Advanced Topics?

The answer is no.

I often see threads made in Advanced Topics asking about complicated programming done in Scratch.

I do not blame creators of the topics; it can get confusing sometimes.

But because your question is complicated (ex. a scrolling game) it doesn't go in Advanced Topics. The All About Scratch forum was made for all questions involving programming in Scratch, or for questions about the website; hence All About Scratch.

The Advanced Topics forum is for discussions about re-programming, modifying, or asking questions about the code in Scratch. Not what was made with it.

Here is an easy way to tell whether your question should be put in Advanced Topics or not:

Reasons to post in Advanced Topics:

Does your question involve making blocks? If so, use the Advanced Topics.
Does your question use the Shift-Click-R method? If so, use the Advanced Topics.
Does your question involve using Squeak? If so, use the Advanced Topics.
Does your question involve the current coding behind the website? If so, use the Advanced Topics.

Reasons to post in All About Scratch:

Does your question involve using blocks to program? If so, use All About Scratch.
Does your question involve making games or animations? If so, use All About Scratch.
Does your question involve the website and its uses? If so, use All About Scratch.
Does your question involve updates to the Scratch program? If so, use All About Scratch.

Thanks for reading, and Scratch On!  smile

This should be stickied. Really great guide; it's easy to understand and concise. Hopefully it'll help clear up a lot of confusion.  smile

Actually, now that I think of it, this would belong better in FAQ...

This is really good and I'm glad that a topic like this was made.  smile  And it was done really well too  big_smile

This should be stickied (in Advanced Topics so people can see it)  big_smile

Re: My question is complicated. Does it go in Advanced Topics?

A very concise and easy to understand definition!  However, it's not quite as clear as that in the minds of many...some of us feel that projects involving advanced math (maybe calculus, matrix operations, etc.) also deserve a place in Advanced Topics.

Please check out this topic called Advanced Topics vs All About Scratch

If there's more discussion on this (and I'm sure there will be!) let's do it on that thread - so I'll close this one.  Thanks for starting the discussion back up again...it would be really nice to clear it up as it is a continuing source of confusion.
